Lots of interesting bridges across this river as it flows to and from Loch Ness with places of interest along the way. View from our hotel, AC Marriott, was nice and with the Inverness Castle looming over it.Visited January 2023Written 9 February 2023

After a couple of days we were able to orient ourselves to the city by relating it to the river. Going about a mile upriver there is a wonderful woods areato walk thru, which also has the Inverness Botanic Gardens across the river.Visited April 2023Written 3 May 2023
- Laurie D36 contributionsThis river walk along the Ness is a treasure!Unexpected Google Map find! This river walk along the Ness is a treasure! The river is very clean, the walk paved and well maintained. The bridge allows easy access to fine restaurants if you are on the car park side of the river to start. Lots to look at and birds to enjoy on the stroll. There are lovely benches to just relax on every couple of hundred feet along both sides of the river. There is a picnic area in front of the coffee hut near the car park.Visited May 2023Written 24 May 2023

Hard to believe it supports a fish population as it appears quite shallow. Walk to the end where you cross unto the islands and wander through the forest. Delightful.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 May 2023

The river runs through the city and is easily reached from anywhere in town. Well marked trails on both sides of the River with pedestrian bridges to both sides and the little islands in the middle of the river. Stop along the way to see St Andrews Cathedral, the Inverness Botanical garden, the statue of the 3 Graces and the distillery/brewery. Grab an ice cream or snack from one of the food trucks. The River Ness in Scotland is a calm and lovely place. It's easy to walk along and everyone should visit. The river has pretty views and you can see the Inverness Castle . The water is clear and reflects everything around it, which looks really nice. There are benches where you can sit and relax, and in the evening, the river looks amazingly calm . You can also explore the old places nearby to learn about Scotland's history. The River Ness is a peaceful and pretty spot that you won't forget. Must Visit for a Evening walk

Hello, I'm interested in doing the river island walk I've read about - anyone done this and how long should it take? Also is there a map anyone used and found useful or is it pretty easy? Thank you :)

If you mean walking around ness islands, then it's as long as you like, you could speedwalk through them in ten mins, or stroll through in a couple of hours. We started on the south side of the river in town, walked along the river, crossed onto the islands, and then played crazy golf on the north side and walked further on to whin park for the kids to play, then walked back along north side to Inverness town past cathedral. Probably spent 3-4 hours doing all that. It's a truly stunning part of the world. Would loved to have done it at night, it's got lights all around the paths apparently. It's very clean too
