Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An alluring, relaxing wee oasis amidst the summertime hustle of Inverness city centre. This historic old house hosts events, guided tours and the knowledgeable, enthusiastic staff run a unique tearoom, with lots of loose leaf flavours and tempting cakes to choose from. With tables to sit inside or out, unwind with a brew and soak up the flavour of old Inverness.

This historic house is worth the visit. One room is open and there is a lot of history of the area. National historic trust of Scotland hopes to be able to open more rooms, but it was very interesting. A lintel stone from a marriage in 1861 is on display.

Apparently this is the oldest house in Inverness. Inside there is a nice and interesting display of pictures and stories about key events in the history of this city. The staff is knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions. Unfortunately only one room was open to the public when I went; the visit ended in 20 minutes. Still worth tho.

This is the oldest house in Inverness, located in church street, and dates back to 1593. Entrance is free, but manage your expectations! You only have access to 1 room, but you will be met by staff who will enthralled you with tales of its past. It has seen many events of history during its time. You can find out about all of this from the well informed staff. Apparently the upstairs is pretty modern so would not be of interest.

what a great place to visit. located in the city centre, easy to find. Although they have opened only one room it is well worth the visit. tells the story of a town house of a well to do family. Information boards give background info. a member is on hand to give you the historical context in a friendly way. free but donations welcome. plans to add a tearoom and open up more rooms.

I recommend stopping into this house (the oldest in Inverness) for a bit of history about the town and to chat up a few very friendly local volunteers. There is a story about a clan uprising caused by the kicking of a wheel of cheese. The spiral staircase that the house was famous for when it was built is not accessible unfortunately. It is a free site. There was no charge to enter.

Only once in Inverness. Had this wee place as a number one to visit. Really wanted to explore it. Both a website and goggle say it’s open, but it’s closed. No signs, no ‘sorry’…
Very disappointing

Had a look round the one room available, where there was a very interesting member of staff, who explained the history of the house. However, there have been so many terrible 60s and 70s changes and upstairs is unstable and inaccessible so there is practically nothing to see. I hope they get serious funding to be able to restore this so that more visitors will, in time, be encouraged to visit it.

It’s my fault I know, but as I hadn’t read up on this beforehand, I didn’t realise that it didn’t open until 11 o’clock. The sad thing is that we were there at about 10 to 11 and could see through the window that there were people inside. Clearly they were NTS staff and, although they must have heard us try the door, or seen us peer through the window, they didn’t come out to advise us that they would be open in 10 minutes. Poor show really.
As it was, we were only able to admire this lovely old house from the outside.
