- Danpad0117 contributionsMTB trailsI come to Aviemore a few times a year to walk the dogs with the other half. I snowboard here at least once a year. I decided to try the trails as a new offering. I booked an e-bike ( had to phone as couldn’t book an e-bike on line). Upon arriving at the mountain the hire process was straightforward, all staff were extremely helpful. The trails are suited to all levels with different start points at different heights up the mountain. The upper level start point is a 5 min ride uphill on an e-bike from the magic carpets, the trails flow nice and have a small number of different lines to take etc. e bike although hard tail was sufficient, I’d definitely recommend the trails and will do them again during my next visitHi there Many thanks for taking the time to submit the above review. We are delighted to read that you had a enjoyable experience on our new Bike Trails and we hope to welcome you back in the future to enjoy them once again. - PThomas1985Stourbridge, United Kingdom396 contributionsDefinitely worth a visit, but not at its bestI knew before visiting the mountain railway was closed for maintenance again, but I still wanted to visit for the walks and views. The website refers to a few walk options, but (unless I missed them) I couldn't see them signposted. I did follow a trail to a waterfall, with lovely views, but I think there were a few missed opportunities here, particularly if the railway is so often closed. It also looked like the cafe was closed, which surprised me. This was, however, on a weekday, and after a few days of bad weather, so perhaps that played apart. I hope to visit again some time when more is open!Hi PThomas1985 Firstly please accept our apologies for the very late response. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. There are numerous walking trails from our resort and we only have the Lower Cas Loop signposted being ideal for families. The other more strenuous mountain routes are not signposted as we expect the walkers to have the knowledge and experience to navigate these without signposting. This also discourages inexperienced walkers heading into the mountains. One of our cafes would have been open on the day of your visit . We do hope to welcome you back in the foreseeable future. - nicandjulAberdeen, United Kingdom56 contributionsFun on the slopes even without snowWe went tubing at the Cairngorms ski resort this afternoon and had a blast. The whole family (2 adults + 2 teens), spent 30 minutes tubing down the 2 bigger slopes and walking back up without much queuing. The staff was very friendly and appreciated the brief safety talk at the start. We’d defo come back.Hi nicandjul Please accept our apologies for the tardy response. - Maxine JNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom11 contributionsBeautiful views and loads to do for all agesAmazing drive up with beautiful views. Couldn’t rate the tube slide staff more - they were so friendly and helpful with our kids. The kids loved the tube slides and little play park, while we got to take in the stunning scenery. The cafe is nice and welcoming and we were really surprised by the number of vegan options available too. Great watching the bike track from the cafe too! Sad the train wasn’t working but just an excuse to come back! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the areaHi 645maxinej Firstly, please accept our apologies for the late response. Thank you so much for your detailed review and we are delighted that your children enjoyed our tubing with our very friendly/helpful staff. We do try to cater for all in our cafes and we look forward to welcoming you back once our funicular is running. - Jo TCheltenham, United Kingdom25 contributionsBeautiful views, terrible cafe, and no train! 7Views were stunning, parking plentiful, but the cafe was a serious disappointment! Expensive, crowded and it wasn't even a good day for skiing. Dread what it would be like if the snow was high! The train was closed, website said it would be open in November, yet in January it still wasn't open so we didn't have the experience we had been looking forward to.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 January 2024

The staff in the ticket office, cable car/lift & cafe were all very friendly & helpful. The cable car/lift was large & was able to take a large number of people. It was a smooth journey up & back down again. Would definitely recommend as the scenery at the top is stunningHi WCE11 thank you for your review. - Natasha W1 contributionWonderful staff at Cairngorm mountainMy partner and I had the best time practicing snowboarding on the learners slope. We spent three days there during our week long stay in Aviemore. All staff we met at the ticket office, gear hire and cafe were incredibly kind, welcoming and well informed. We would like to particularly thank Graham and Mark who made our experience even better. They were so friendly, and we had such wonderful conversations with them during our time on the mountain. Although the snow wasn't the best is usually is for March with a warmer climate, the snow machines on the beginners slope helped us make the most of the time we had. We miss it so much, can't wait to come back and have a go on the slopes next time!Hi K4019WYnatashaw. - nickswlonTeddington, United Kingdom471 contributionsExcellent Guided WalkI did the guided walk and had a great time. (Sorry I didn’t catch the name of the warden). The walk was very informative and it was great to get out on a walk which wasn’t too strenuous and to find out something about the geography, geology and botany of the mountains. It was so much better than just taking a picture as you whizz by in the car and I would thoroughly recommend this to future travellers. The packed lunch was just right for me too.Hi nickswlon, thank you so much for your lovely review and we are delighted that you had a informative Northern Corries walk with our ranger Ruari. Arrived just before 8:30 for a days skiing. Started queueing to hire ski's and boots at 8:40. Took over 3 hours of queueing (until 11:45) to get kit to ski. At point of paying we asked whether, as we had lost half the day queueing, would they offer us half day rate (which starts at 12:30). We were told no 'it is what it is, we wouldn't find anything different anywhere else', whilst others asking the same question where told 'hard luck'.
We have been elsewhere and had much, much better more efficient service than here.
Shockingly inefficient service, completely under resourced and incapable of providing an acceptable level of service.
We will not be going here again and would STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST anyone visiting here if you need to hire kit on site.
Some people queued for best part of three hours to then have it announced they had run out of size 9 & 10 boots so no option but to go home.
Once on the slopes huge queues for lifts with lots of stoppages added to shocking day.
Absolute waste of time and money, and very poor advert for Scottish skiing.

Hi F1948OUterrih
Thank you for your review dated 19th February 2020. Wednesday saw the largest number of customers on site in half term and ordinarily this should have been manageable. However, the weather forecast for higher winds came much earlier than projected resulting in operational challenges. Because of this forecast we sold a set amount of tickets according to the conditions, unfortunately due to the high winds and safety of our customers we had to close the upper tows much earlier therefore causing a “bottle neck” of queues. Our ski hire was extremely busy due to the volume of customers arriving at the same time. The ski hire process is a very time consuming process due to the fitting of boots and adjusting the ski/snowboard bindings which has got to be done correctly complying with health and safety. We are constantly striving to improve the speed going through our equipment hire, especially during the holiday period and can assure you that each person is a valued customer.
Kind regards

Arrived at 8am and queued for equipment hire for approx 2.5 hours. Very disorganised and it transpired that those who had booked ski school were prioritised so making progress within the queue was very slow. Only 2 staff on boots and 3 staff handing out skis and boards and taking money.
On the slopes by 10:30 and it was absolute mayhem!! Far too many people on the slopes and no space for us to practise safely.
The queues for the lifts were ridiculous but despite this we joined the queue only for the lift to be out of action on 3 occasions so in the end not one member of our group of 8 people managed to use the lift. An absolute rip off at £28 each and not even a part refund offered.
The cafe was over priced .... £4.50 for a sausage roll !?!?! Bring a packed lunch.
To the management team, there’s really no excuse at all for such a shocking service. You clearly have no desire to offer customer satisfaction and this is a real amateur set up. Have some respect for your staff, I spoke to a few of them and they were rushed off their feet. You should be prepared for the very few busy days you have each year and have enough staff in to ensure your customers are dealt with in a reasonable time.
Shout out to Jamie Tuck, this lady was everywhere supporting and assisting customers with a very professional and friendly manner.

We arrived with our young grandchildren at 08.20 on the 19th Feb to buy tickets for the days skiing. After queuing for almost 3 hours for ski hire we eventually got kitted out at 11.10. Asked if we could get a our ticket refunded to a half day due to the morning being wasted it was a blanket no, really felt aggrieved by this response.
Once on the mountain one of the few lifts operating broke down and queues at the other lifts were awful.
This resort is poorly run with too few staff, badly maintained equipment and generally not fit for purpose.
The staff were trying to do their best but the management really need to take a hard look at what they are providing to their customers. A £150 wasted on a day we had all looked forward to for a while.

We booked this for a fun family day for me my partner and 2 boys aged 10 and 5. Kyle who is 5 is autistic and non verbal we traveled nearly 50 minutes to be left extremely upset and angry they wouldn’t let my 5year old On the tubing because he can’t wear a mask ! I have spoken to EASS and will be taking this further the staff at the tubing we’re so rude one gentleman in particular when we complained to the manger on duty we where basically told thats just how it is the staff has a personal reason as to why he won’t allow anyone with a mask on. I was in tears and we left after 10 mins my 5 year old didn’t understand what was going on which lend to a total meltdown In The car on the way home which lend to him being sick. I will never return and won’t recommend this venue to anyone this needs to stop and how they treat people with a disability..

Dear Chazza2021
We are sorry to learn of your negative experience during your visit to Cairngorm Mountain.
Whilst we understand that certain groups are exempt from wearing face coverings under current Scottish Government guidance, we feel that due to the close interaction between our staff and customers we must insist on the wearing of these in areas of our activity where social distancing is not possible.
We have a duty of care to both the members of our staff who operate the activity, and our valued customers. With the high prevalence of the virus in the local area it is vital that we maintain COVID security to ensure the safety of everyone at Cairngorm Mountain.
Please be assured, this policy is advocated to everyone, and there was no discriminatory intent. We have always tried our best to accommodate all visitors in our activities and as with our other COVID security policies, this will remain under constant review.

This cafe has a fabulous position with a great view....which is partially obscured by the great big snow making machine which emits a smell of diesel. What a pity it wasn’t placed in a different position and be more environmentally friendly. The cafe itself has more of a canteen atmosphere. Metal chairs on a stone floor. Staff were keen to get customers out by 4pm although it says here they are open until 4.30pm. Why close so early? Walkers and skiers would be appreciative of a meal when coming off the hill. There’s a sign saying not to dry wet clothes near the lovely big stove. Could a place not be provided for this? Again, walkers and those skiing would appreciate this. Simple things like providing tea in a tea pot and not a tea bag in a mug makes a big difference. And lastly, why pay for parking? We are your customers!

Hi mogi760 . Thank you very much for your recent review on Cairngorm Mountain. As you say, our café has a fabulous position and unfortunately our Snow Factory has been positioned in the corner of our car park for close proximity to the lower slope for our snowmaking. Whilst the location is not ideal, this year it is particularly helpful as to-date it is only the snow from the Snow Factory that has been used by skiers and snowboarders. We are shortly going to be using biofuel which will eliminate any smell from the Snow Factory. During our winter operation/dark nights there is less customer demand for the use of our café, however I can only apologise on behalf of our catering staff for your early departure. Tea pots are no longer used in our café or Cas Bar. The sign regarding wet clothing has been placed on the wall due to a health and safety requirement. Unfortunately we have limited public areas and are not in a position to offer a drying area to our customers. However you can leave your jackets on the hooks provided in the Café and Cas Bar. Our car parking charges are valid from April to October which is used to maintain and improve the car parks here on the mountain, help to fund a range of projects and thereby improve the environment. This funding will be of benefit to all visitors. Kind regards Lorna

Tubing was poor value for money. Left feeling robbed as it had cost £45 for 30 minutes. The slot we had was busy so spent a fair bit of the 30 minutes either queuing or helping our children pull their tubes back up the slope. My husband and I actually only ended up getting 1 go on each slide - not much value for £20 spent. Waited the whole session for a double tube so my son could have a slide with his Dad. My son left in tears because he never got to - the staff were not particularly friendly or helpful, they would not let him have one last go with his Dad when the 30 minutes were up. Wouldn't recommend it as there are so many other options for activities in the area which offer much better value.

Very mixed day. Ticket office lady was very nice. The snow was amazing, slops well groomed and people working on the lifts where all very nice. If I had ended here then I would have rated it 5 out of 5 however when I entered the top restaurant it was a complete let down. No hot food at 1:39pm fridges 3/4 empty, no atmosphere at all in this restaurant. Put a real downer on my overall day. You can’t believe even get a hot or cold drink after 3pm. In future I think I will go to the Lecht or glenshee

Hi Resort823874
Thank you for your review and I am delighted that you received a warm welcome from our ticket office staff and our lifties and you enjoyed our well groomed pistes. Our Ptarmigan Restaurant at the Top Station has only just recently opened (due to the full snow coverage and further surface lifts operating) and we had a very limited menu being tea, coffee, soup and sandwiches . Unfortunately, our Ptarmigan Restaurant has been out of action for several months, hence we had technical issues with our coffee machine and our music speakers. At car park level in our Day Lodge we have the Cas Bar and Cairngorm Café open offering a selection of hot food, drinks with open fire (in Cas Bar) and wood burning stove in the café. I sincerely hope that you can come back again to enjoy our cafes along with the wonderful atmosphere.
Kind regards
Lorna

Started at the base camp for a weekend wild camping and it did not disappoint! The primary reason for leaving this review here however is to review the facilities at the base camp. There is a shop where some supplies can be picked up if anything urgently forgotten (in my case, gloves and a hat as these were left by the side of my front door!) The cafe, which was attended on Sunday afternoon was a fantastic return to "civilization" with nice coffee and cakes, just enough to keep the energy levels up before the drive back to Glasgow.
Finally, Graham, the individual who was working on a "meet and greet" basis on arrival to the resort was excellent, he explained the layout of the respective hills, advising on pleasant places to camp and showed a brass relief whilst doing so, to allow for easier visualization. What really sets Graham's customer service apart however is that he in fact remembered me on the Sunday afternoon and asked how the walk was! We had a good brief chat about the route and being unable to locate one of the paths which was stated on our OS map - but never the less, Graham is a real asset to the Cairngorm mountain team. Look forward to riding on the funicular when it's in operation again!

Hello CovingDoorLock
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review and yes you are quite correct - Graham is a wonderful asset/ambassador to Cairngorm Mountain and I have passed on your comments to Graham.
Our shop has a great choice of necessities for the mountain along with gifts, etc and I am chuffed that you enjoyed the coffee and cakes in our takeaway cafe.
We look forward to welcoming you back and hopefully Graham will be in charge of the funicular (when it is operating) on your return.

Great location which is obviously popular with skiers. Went here today just for a look with my parents, we drove right up to the cafe to drop my mum off who has difficulty walking and a lovely member of staff helped us with this, then dad was directed to the disabled parking area.
There's a good cafe with great customer service and a little shop that sells a bit of walking and ski gear.
There is plenty of parking, but I would imagine it would get very busy at the weekend and when there's plenty of snow around, today there was only a thin layer.
Overall a pleasant experience with some fabulous views.

We visited the Cairngorm mountain on a beautiful summers day to take in the views. There was lots of parking here, with a suggested donation of £2 to park. We also had a light lunch in the cafe and enjoyed it very much- all the food is served in a covid secure way and although the menu is not extensive, the sandwiches and chips we had were excellent and more than enough to keep us going until dinner.
Lots of walks and photo opportunities up at the car park area.
Well worth a visit, even if you aren’t planning on walking up to the top of the mountain!

Hi Kate G. I presume you are asking about taking a backpack on our funicular? Presently our funicular railway remains out of service at present. Owner Highlands and Islands Enterprise expects operations will start up again in early 2023, during the winter season. Cairngorm Team. 😊

Will the funicular railway be open by Nov 2022? How much will it cost? How much time should I allocate for this funicular rail trip up to summit and back?
I understand tubing may take at most an hour - would anyone advise how to spend the remaining hours of the day after that? Is there a cafe nearby that I can sit in to watch them tube?

Hi, the funicular will not be open in November this year. We plan to have it open early next year. Please keep an eye on our website/social media for updates. The tubing session lasts 30 minutes excluding the safety brief. Please check our website nearer the time re availability. CMSL team.

If we get the loft up can we use the cafe and can the kids just play in the snow?
Written 30 December 2021
YES, cafe open and no restrictions on kids playing, but be mindful of the cars in the car park

If we take the bus to the base station can we walk up from there to the summit? And how long is the walk (distance wise)?

Hi. We are presently covered in snow so would advise that you have winter walking gear. Depending on your fitness and the weather conditions it can take anything from 45 minutes to 2 hours to walk up to the summit. It is about 3 to 3.5 kilometers depending on your route.

Planning a visit to the area next year and wanted to know how long it takes to climb the mountain?
Is it suitable for a 9&13 year old
Written 25 August 2019
Took us a couple of hours. It is suitable for that age, go with good shoes and appropriate clothes for the weather, drinks and snacks to keep them going. There isn’t anything open past the car park.
