Steam through the stunning Scottish Highlands in style. Our steam engines take you on a very special trip through the Cairngorms National Park as you travel between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Why not make your trip extra special with one of our dining on board options: Light Lunch offers soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee; Afternoon Tea has some sandwiches, scones with jam and cream followed by some delicious cakes; or enjoy a full three course Sunday Lunch or Dinner. Why not upgrade to First Class to enjoy a meal in one of our compartments, finely decorated in it's own tartan, with vintage British Rail mirrors and luggage racks inside.Split your trip up with a visit to Boat of Garten to explore some fantastic walk trails or bring your bike on board to explore the great cycle routes in the area. See if you can beat the train back from Broomhill on your bike!We are also taking part in the Great Railway Treasure Hunt 2013, so there's plenty for the kids to do on the trip!

Family day out on the Strathspey Steam Loco (46512). Boarded at Boat of Garten for 'round trip' to Aviemore and Broomhill (Glenbogle). A good 1hour 30 minutes journey with great views and wonderfully preserved stations. Time out at all stations to check out the engine and the carriages.........the crew, Driver and Fireman took time out to pose with members of... More

My partner is a fan of railway history and we like to visit and support heritage lines as much as possible so we were always going to visit, it particularly helped that the railway allows dogs to travel for free and we had our 3 month old pup with us. We bought our tickets on the day, due to a... More

The Strathspey Railway is always good fun, the views are excellent and the carriages are a bit more comfortable than on your standard heritage railway (the price you pay for this is a more modern BR interior unfortunately). We were allowed onto the footplate at Broomhill station to see inside the engine, even though we were all grownups, and the... More

A very enjoyable 90 minute round trip from Aviemore to Broomhill (otherwise known as Glenbogle railway station for those who remember the "Monarch of the Glen" TV series), calling at the intriguingly named Boat of Garten on the way. Good to see another preserved steam railway being successful - the staff couldn't have been more helpful and there is a... More

Journey was expensive for round trip three adults. Overall it was authentic but once en route you could have been in any train, anywhere. Don't get me wrong it was enjoyable and worthwhile to keep steam trains running and everyone was very friendly but a tour of the engine etc would have made it that bit better.

A great journey through the Scottish country side, with the added bonus of being pulled along by a steam engine. As the engine started going up hill it was lovely to hear the engine chuffing along and smell the engine as we sat back in the carriage. For my husband as a huge Monarch of The Glen fan, he got... The train has its own platform which adds to the nostalgia of the day and we had booked the afternoon tea package. We were disappointed at the level of cleanliness and it was really off putting but the staff were very accommodating and ever so helpful. There are small details that could be dealt which would have made the experience... More
