Central Station, a time capsule of Glasgow and Scotlands history
I was on this tour yesterday with some colleagues from the CIOB, it was a real eye opener, full of interest, intrigue and the tour guide Paul was enthralling. Everyone in our group loved the tour and Pauls' inimitable style really added to the experience. As a proud Glaswegian, there was so much I just didn't know about the iconic Central Station and the vital role it served in both world wars. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has in interest in Glasgow, Scotland, social history or architecture.

    Trains. People. History
I never thought that a tour of a train station would be so interesting and educational. These train stations are the life line of these cities and they their impact on local culture and overall history are amazing. Flávia was my tour guide and she provided a ton of history not only about the station, but Scotland in general. It was a really cool tour also because they take you down into the lower underbelly of the station!

Glasgow Central Station Tour - add this to your bucket list.
Booked the tour after watching the television series about the station and it exceeded expectations. Fun and informative about the station and Glasgow, our guide Jackie’s passion and humour means this tour should be up there with key places to visit in Glasgow. Bargain at £15 per person. Absolutely loved it!

Just as good as on the BBC TV Programme
I think that over the years we have passed through Glasgow Central Station on several dozen occasions. However on most of these, our visits have been mad dashes to catch a train, or to quickly get somewhere in Glasgow once we have got off from a train. However twice over the past few months we have had some spare time on hand which allowed us to have a good look around and take some photos.

One of the best main stations in Britain
Glasgow Central is one of two main stations in Glasgow( the other is Queen St, which serves northern and central Scotland). Central is the main station for services in southern Scotland, the south bank of the Clyde and to English destinations such as Carlisle, London, Liverpool and Manchester. The station has 15 surface platforms and 2 underground platforms for local services. Central is a fine listed Victorian station with most of its original features retained such as the old ticket office, the station roof and the glass walls overlooking Argyle St. While most stations are boring, functional places to catch a train, Central has an impressive set of eateries from a steak house, a champagne bar to branches of Costa Coffee and Pret A Manger. Also there is a pleasant waiting room and plenty of seating on the concourse. The staff are friendly and helpful( not always the case in some stations) and the station is easy to get around. My only gripe is the departure screens only show which platform your train is departing from 10 minutes before your journey, which means you might have to rush to catch your train and there was a bit of a rugby scrum on the platform where my train was departing from. Otherwise this is a fine station and an asset to Glasgow.

Glasgow Central Station tour - not to be missed
This was one of the best tours I've ever been on. Paul, our guide, was friendly, informative and very funny. He kept everyone engaged with his 'Glesga patter'. Hearing stories of the first world world troops was harrowing but was conveyed with dignity. The Victorian tunnels were also very interesting and hearing that there are plans to lay some track and bring in an old steam engine make a second visit in he future worthwhile.

    Tour of Glasgow Central
We did the tour of Glasgow Central today. Our guide Paul was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and very entertaining. Paul initiated the tours and you can tell it is his passion. There are new things happening in a few weeks and it will be worth going back again. Glasgow should be very proud of all the work he was done. Would highly recommend the tour

Fantastic tour. Jackie was informative and entertaining- not an easy task! She kept the tour light hearted but respectful when needed e.g. at the WW1 wall. As a Glaswegian just shows how much I still don't know about my own city.

    Amazing tour
Went on the Glasgow Central Station tour having watched "Inside Central Station" on the BBC Scotland channel. This is a fascinating tour, wonderfully brought to life by the amazing guide Jackie who, in addition to her in depth knowledge of the history and operation of the station, had a real talent for theatre and drama and was also fabulous at engaging with the audience. Her lively presentation covered the history and architecture of the station and brought in lots of other topics too including the social history of Glasgow and the rise and fall of shipbuilding. We were warned that some parts of the tour would be very warm but I didn't find it too bad. However anyone with mobility issues would need to be careful as there are a lot of steps and not many places where it's possible to sit down. All in all an excellent tour which I can't recommend highly enough. And well done to "force of nature" Jackie, excellent work!

If your looking for something 'different' to do in Glasgow, then book yourself a ticket on the Glasgow Central Station Tour. You will not be disappointed. You will hear stories of the past and visit parts of this unique, iconic building that you didn't even know were there. I must mention Paul, our tour guide. His knowledge of Central Station is terrific and his passion and enthusiasm for this project is infectious. Hopefully they will manage to acquire some additional exhibits that will make an already fantastic tour, truly amazing!

This tour was a fantastic way to see how the recent history of Scotland has changed one of its iconic buildings. Paul Lyons our guide was brilliant as he breathed passion whilst conducting the various parts of it. His enthusiasm and wit made it enthralling and hopefully he can receive the funding he needs to develop this into not only one of the best attractions in Glasgow but the UK.

The tour was brought to life by the knowledge of the tour guide, retired station master from Paddington and many other large mainline stations. He is passionate about the long history of Glasgow central station and believes that this must be passed on to future generations. His teams untiring work of unearthing, literally, past histories and continually adding to the tour agenda, showing some of the two square miles of the station in areas not available for general access.
Definitely worth the tour especially for engineers, an interest in railways, Glasgow's development history enabled by railways.
If it’s a dreich day in Glasgow this is the tour to take - could be sunny when you return to the surface.

We had a great day on the Glasgow Central Station tour, Jackie was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about all aspects of the tour. Having been in the station many times over the years it was very interesting to see the parts of the station that are no longer open to the general public.

The museum was very interesting and it was good to see it in the flesh as we had seen Jackie talk about it on the television programme . We would highly recommend the tour to anyone who wants to know more about the history of this fabulous station.

Outside the museum is a slide show about the role the station played in the repatriation of the armed forces of the Great War, a very sobering episode .

We will go again and hopefully see the Victorian platform when it is refurbished. A most enjoyable day out, thanks in no small measure to our fabulous tour guide Jackie

What a wonderful hour and fifteen minutes tour of the Central Station. Our tour guide Paul Lyons was the perfect host . He gave us a wonderful insight into so much of the history of the Station. His enthusiasm shone through from start to finish. So much more will be added to the tour over the coming months with a steam engine , shop and ticket office coming soon. Looking forward to going back again when the new items are in place.

could not reccommend the tour enough, when the steam train arrives we will be booking again! Jackie is your golden nugget. thankyou Jackie for educating us and reminding us what a great train station Glasgow Central really is (also our City) makes you go home feeling proud

We paid £18 to leave a small rucksack and a handbag for 8 hours. (I have since realised there are much cheaper options nearby). The lady on duty when the bags were handed in in the morning was rude and unhelpful, insisting that we took the 2 phone chargers out of the bags (I've been through security at airports all over the world and never had to remove chargers!!). Then, she did not offer a surface I could use to unpack my handbag so I had to put all my possessions on the floor to find the charger. Very expensive, very unfriendly and not a good welcome to Glasgow. If the station is going to offer left luggage facilities, they need to be competitively priced and the staff need to be trained in customer service.

Went on the tour today for the second time and I found it absolutely fascinating! I loved the museum and could have happily spent longer looking at the different exhibits. Our host, Paul Lyons, was very engaging band told many stories about the history of this fascinating building. I can highly recommend the Glasgow Central Station Tour!

One of Scotland’s more accessible large train stations. Unlikely Queen Street, the toilets remain free to anyone needing access to their (essential anyway, but doubly so to those of us with disabilities). Staff generally on hand for any support required, good number of self-service machines, etc.. Signage is consistent, with the only real issue ever occurring being how the huge queues that emerge to the left-most side of the station are ordered - limiting ease of movement around this part of the station during particularly busy times.
