- MannyPeePaisley, United Kingdom207 contributionsFantastic VenueSeen some bands here over the decades and it’s quite unique in the sense that, because of the acoustics, the crowd are quite audibly singing the songs and passionately so. Something that is lost in an outdoor venue. Forget all the soor pooses yammering on about the obvious need for a makeover, the ambiance would be lost in a heart beat. If you have never seen a band here, make a point of changing that. It’s a damn site better than the antiseptic cavern that is the Hydro.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 March 2024
- MackHannover, Germany57 contributionsIconic VenueAttended a concert here (The Mountain Goats). The neon sign outside and star-covered ceiling inside are really iconic, and the sound was great. There are a lot of stairs, so be aware of that if you have any sort of mobility issue (I think they have accessibility options for people with disabilities, but there are, of course, also people who have unrecognised mobility issues or who are simply tired after doing sightseeing before the concert/standing in queue outside). Please also be aware that the cloakroom is 2 pounds per item, but they accept card payments. Tap water was free (well, either that or I accidentally stole some?), which I think is really important for health and safety of concert-goers (at my local concert venue a single cup of water is 6 pounds).Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 May 2024
- metalminxScotland, United Kingdom373 contributionsScream for me Glasgow!!!We had a ball at the recent Bruce Dickinson gig at the Barras. Our first ever gig happened to be Iron Maiden at this very venue back in 1998 so it was fabulous to see Bruce gracing the same stage many years later! It was a great atmosphere. Everyone around us was up for enjoying the gig, with no nonsense like constantly talking over the music, thankfully, and it was a bonus to experience the Barras roar without the accompanying beer rinse for once. All the staff we encountered were efficient and friendly from the security staff to the barman who was full of the Glasgow patter when the hubby asked if there was a charge for a glass of water “it’s free of course, it’s tap water!!”. The way it should be!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 June 2024

Saw Sparks last night and the band themselves said it was 'proper venue', better than sterile modern places. Good sound, with its curved ceiling, good ventilation.
A very enthusiastic audience having fun but not rowdy or loutish.
Barrowland is close to the city centre, free parking nearby after 6pm. Buses pass by the door, easy walk from Central Station or Hi.gh Street; Subway at St Enoch
Huge loos to deal with the crowd; at least 3 bars available; price of a pint £5 - reasonable for concert. Very efficient bar staff. First aiders on patrol.
It's up stairs but they have a stair climber and a raised seating area at the rear.
And we all took pics of the neon sign!

Incredible venue. Best venue I’ve ever been to! I’ve recently seen the Sea girls and The Lathums here and both were amazing. The bar is a bit pricey, as expected at a gig, but you can buy a warm can of Tennents for £3 as a cheaper alternative! Great venue, helpful staff

I've visited the Barrowlands many times over the years, most recently on Monday to see Saxon. The venue is legendary with its sprung dancefloor and very traditional set up. The Barrowland Ballroom is also infamous for being the place where the serial killer Bible John picked up his victims in the late 1960's. Today it's a concert venue which is well loved, both by fans and bands, and has a reputation for being rowdy. If a band you like is playing here I recommend you go and experience it for yourself.

Just saw The Sisters of Mercy here. Fantastic gig, but as a person with mobility issues, I have to say that the Ballroom skates perilously close to being illegal. It takes 2 flights of stairs to get to the stage area - no lifts. Walking up is bad enough, leaving was even worse, with the pressure of other people constantly pushing behind me. Staff were lovely and stepped in to help, but they shouldn't have to. I know, it's old and 'iconic'. That's no excuse. The owners need to sort out proper disabled access before someone gets hurt.

What an awesome venue full stop. We went to see OCS in December and they didn't disappoint it was a Tuesday night and the venue was rammed. So glad i got to take in the atmosphere before they went on stage and what a night it was.

The male event staff have some sort of power complex going on especially a bald male with an english accent that likes to manhandle women unnecessarily and stand up in the middle of a performance and shout " Is he just being an arse" repeatedly. I understand safety is a priority but a lot of the staff behaviour was unacceptable.
Through my years of gigging the Barrowlands have the worst staff in Glasgow.
Venue is fine otherwise. Staff needs an adjustment.

Saw the Almighty. First visit to Barrowlands and a sold out show. The venue didn't oversell the tickets so whilst it was snug, it wasn't crushed. Old school venue, old school gig, great atmosphere and great crowd, sound system OK but the whole experiene was great, highly recommended.

What is the view like from the accessibility platform? Can you see the stage/ band ok? Thankyou
Written 16 April 2024
From memory it’s next to the sound stage and that’s where all the YouTube videos are taken from. Not up close and personal where I like to be, but your sound experience is probably the best in the room.

How much does the cloakroom cost? I'm going to a show soon and I want to know how much change to bring.

Am I allowed to bring food in in my bag for eating after the gig I'm attending ends?
Written 21 September 2023
I'm at a event on Wednesday night and was wondering if your allowed small bags on you? I have a cross body bag I use so I dont lose my mobile and keys etc
Written 19 June 2023
Not sure to be honest as i do not take small bags to gigs in case they are not allowed.
Written 21 June 2023
Could someone tell me about what is allowed or forbidden inside the venue? (water bottle, bags, food...) thanks!
Written 1 November 2019
There's a cloakroom . You can take small bags in depending on gig but water bottles would have to be checked
Written 14 November 2019
How early do you need to get there to get a good view / be near the front in standing. Thanks.
Written 24 May 2019
Hi,
Depends on band and crowd.
If you are as close to the front during any support band the usual milling between bands will give you a chance to move in.
