- Thomas GAmsterdam, The Netherlands1,876 contributionsNice stroll through flowersThe botanic gardens are lovely in Glasgow and you can go in a big greenhouse with cool plants, but my highlight were the small connected greenhouses, where you really walk next to beautiful flowers. Outside there are also some flowers to observe. It will take you around an hour to see everything.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- Nick CutterForest of Dean, United Kingdom60 contributionsBeautiful just beautiful! What a good day out! Really really pretty location, have lovely photos. Feel like you’re in a different world, in some kind of serene oasis almost. The place is all looked after very nicely and it’s free to get in. I think the volunteer group who look after it all have done a great job. Thumbs up all around!! Worth a visit to anyone thinking of going. 👍👍👍Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 October 2023

- Matthew E12 contributionsBotanic Gardens GlasgowThe stunning Botanic Gardens is a delightful walk with many other facilities that makes it more inviting than your average walk trail, for example it has a children's park which makes it perfect for parents as this can keep the children entertained. The gardens also offers different sections like a vegetable garden and a rose garden which can be particularly interesting. And finally the building inside botanic gardens offers a variety of different plants to view and its own fish tank. These things all together make this walk special and also why personally i had a very positive experience while visiting.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 May 2024
- CM15775110 contributionsNot to be missed. This was one of the best things we did in Glasgow. The gardens are so varied and well labeled. The room of carnivorous plants really stood out as the largest and best displayed example I've ever encountered. The orchids are beautiful, as well as the statuary. The gardens outside were just as spectacular.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 May 2024
- dundeetravellermrshcDundee, United Kingdom4,698 contributionsWorth a VisitVisited on a sunny busy Sunday morning. Visited the Orchid Display, which was very interesting to see, as various Orchid clubs from Scotland and England were on display, plenty of growers and sellers on hand to chat to and buy the orchids from, the various colours were beautiful. Also wandered through the fern trees, cacti, tropical section in the glasshouses, and outside the herb gardens. There are other areas to visit outside, also inside tearooms and an outside catering (tea/coffee) vendor, luvly outside picnic area, a large car park and a children's play area to use. An added bonus its free to visit. Worth a visit :)Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 May 2024
- JohnlewisGlasgow, United Kingdom11 contributionsGreat ExperienceI went to the Botanic Gardens for a trip with college and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the greenhouses and seeing all the different types of plants and fish. We started in first greenhouse and went to see the fish, we then moved through the greenhouse seeing different types of plants and greenery form different continents around the world. We then moved to a different part of the greenhouse and seen the killer plants. Once we had finished in this greenhouse we then moved to the next one where we were met with a larger array of plants and more fish. As we moved through the greenhouse and into hotter regions we were met by plants such as the cacti. My favorite part was seeing the catfish and the statues. This is a great day out for everyone whether it be friends, family or with colleagues.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 June 2024
- Heather B11 contributionsGlasgow botanic gardensWe ventured into Glasgow Botanic Gardens and had a blast! We stopped for coffee and snacks at the snack bar in the entrance both were delicious. We then went inside to one of the greenhouse and explored the various plants, trees, flowers, statues and cacti. We also explored the outside grounds and walked along the canal.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 June 2024
- FlossyfrillsDidmarton, United Kingdom90 contributionsFabulous Flora and FaunaSimply stunning, so well looked after and totally free. The Glass House was in beautiful gardens where you can spend a few hours wandering about. There are lots of different areas of interest, a rose garden, arboretum and children's play area. It's also in the fabulous West End, with lots of shops and cafés. We loved it!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 June 2024

Worst waste of money ever spent , £80 for a family of 5 to walk around a park with some lights totally over priced. Food stalls where terrible £6 for a hot chocolate and £8.5 for a slice of pizza. We are in a cost of living crisis with many families like mine that can now only afford one outing per month. Don't waste your money there is so many better things for families to do this walk around a park with thousands of people disappointed.

Around £15 a ticket to have to park several streets down, get an uber to the botanical gardens, queue in the cold with people who don't care about social distancing, then shuffle around some ok looking lights towards an expensive food village and then basically you are done, ok for very small children and families but as an adult looking for something cute to do, don't bother, I felt out of place there as a couple and we got out as quickly as we could really. Either way you look at it, it's unfortunately a rip off, I can imagine it's very expensive for families too! However the alien space ship light show was kind of cool. Not for £30 plus uber's and petrol though. Better off going for a walk in the park, in the dark. 👎

A calm and beautiful oasis in the centre of Glasgow. We visited early in the morning when the glasshouses had just opened... The morning winter sun shining through the steamy windows was beautiful. There are a wide range of different plants to view and a lot of information available to read about them. Considering it is free to visit I don’t see why you wouldn’t go! We spoke to a gardener briefly who was watering the plants and he was very friendly too.

Lovely gardens with a variety of plants. The greenhouses are definitely worth going to as they are simply stunning. The main one has many statues in it as well as the succulents, ferns and venomous plants. It is really well laid out with gorgeous displays. The other greenhouses are wonderful to one containing a banana tree and a cola tree. Unfortunately some walkways are blocked off due to covid although there is still lots open. The rose garden is bare this time of year however so if you wanted to see the roses I'd suggest going earlier in the season. Overall the place has a relaxing atmosphere and is great for a walk. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting Glasgow.

The last time I visited the Botanic Gardens was more than 20 years ago when I went there with my brand new husband to have our wedding photographs taken, so our recent visit had a lot to live up to. It did. :0)
It is a beautiful open space with lots of interesting planting.
It's a lovely natural place to explore.
The park is full of benches for a place to sit, relax, watch the world and get chatting to a stranger (an obligatory pastime in friendly Glasgow).
Well worth a visit.

Lovely gardens, well kept and always a pleasure to visit. However, as the toilets appear to be permanently shut, and there are no hand washing facilities which is so important to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. It makes so sense for these facilities to be closed as they could be easily set up and managed even if the public has to pay a small charge to use toilet facilities. Although quite frankly we pay enough taxes to accommodate this.

We visited the gardens in the morning but found car parking difficult. we ended up parking a mile away on the main road which will soon be chargeable. Yes we visited early march but there was not much colour. Unfortunately the 2 glass houses did not open until 12:00 and half the gardens were cut off as there was a film crew. I personally found the gardens no better than our parks in Leeds.

There is certainly plenty of varied plant life, many of which you are unlikely to see in the average garden. It is certainly worth a visit but it is not the sort of place that your average person is likely to spend more than 30 minutes looking around the indoor greenhouses. It would probably be best to combine a visit here with some other activity, with the popular Byres Road being only a couple of minutes away.

Thoroughly lovely little scenic & quiet hideaway spot. Plenty of open space for the kiddies to run round & seating for adults to relax.
Only special note I would add is the tea room located in the grounds. What they sell is certainly very nice but by no means worthy of the London price tags affixed to them.
Far better suggestion is when you require refreshments is to venture just outside the grounds & partake of a much larger & more sensibly priced selection of outlets.
Would none the less be more than happy to visit again

There was the 2 buildings and the park. Can easily be done in under an hour if you rush but likely no longer than 2 hours if you take your time.
Double check the openning time. Google indicated a 10AM openning and when I arrived there was a sign on the door that they didn't open the buildings until noon. Might have been a covid thing and could have changed by now.

Can I bring my well behaved dog with me today please
Written 11 October 2019
You sure can. I see many people walking dogs in the gardens.

Yes, as the architectural experience of the hothouse will be the same, but less crowded....and is cosy warm in the worst of scottish weather!

Is there a bus from buchanan street to the gardens
Written 27 December 2017
The best way is via the underground station from Buchanan Street to Hillhead, and walk a short distance. There may well be a street map at the station.

How do I get there from the Marriott city centre by public transport?
Written 21 May 2016
The clockwork orange (the SPT) is brilliant you should get off at hill head and walk up the hill. You will go past Waitrose on the left. With a Waitrose loyalty card you can get a free coffee to take into the garden. You can get one for each adult. On the right just down Cresswell street superdrug and oxfam books are on the corner you can get fabulous milkshakes at the Atrium cafe. Oxfam books is wonderful to buy a book to read in the botanical. It is roughly £9 to get a taxi from the middle of town to the gardens so if there are several of you this may be the cheaper option. There is a taxi rank outside the gardens for a return trip. We love the cafe right in the gardens it sells very fresh food. Hope this helps!
