Lots of space to drink outdoors, but dominated by a huge screen and, when we went there, some fairly tuneless and loud live music. Beer was OK, but staff looked hassled and stressed. Used to.be a lovely place.

The recent refurbishment of The Pear Tree has meant it's now a really pleasant place to spend an afternoon, inside if it's raining and outside in the beer garden when it's sunny. Friendly and helpful staff, good pub grub and great music.

Walked into the Pear Tree on Saturday night and was utterly dismayed at the changes. A once beautiful, iconic bar reduced to a souless shell bereft of character. Food and service were fine, no problems there, drinks less so. A friend declared their pale ale...More

It's a good place to get a pint and watch some sport on the large screen outside. Good fun on a sunny afternoon.

Great new renovation, the inside was fantastic. Outside courtyard will be just as great in better weather!

Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around
university buildings in Southside, the sort of
neighbourhood that supports a long string of
second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for
just a few pounds. In August the student population is
replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here
for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and
arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking

Hi Terry, Pear Tree House does not have any rooms to let unfortunately (the name is historical rather than referring to a "guest house"). If you're looking for accommodation specifically on the Southside, there's a number... More
