Sip fresh brewed coffee while waiting for your delicious cheese toastie - made with artisan bread - to grill. Feast your eyes on gorgeous fruit and veg, piled up to tempt, Stall holders are friendly and helpful - as, I found, are the customers when...More

This is a small and crowded market so be ready to get there early to have time to wonder around the different stands. There's tons of food but you can also find some other craft artsy things. We got some strawberries and sausages to have...More

The only reason it's not a 5 is because it's a little smaller than I was anticipating. It's behind the castle, so you have to go down the hill, but it then merges right into the Princes Gardens. Variety of local foodstuffs, and all the...More

Nice to see this in a busy city. Each stallholder answered questions and volunteered more information. Lovely quality food ranging from traditional food to other cultures selling their items too. It was thoroughly enjoyable

As a visitor to Edinburgh I found this a great market to get some local fresh produce for our stay. Fresh berries and Simple Simon's Pies were especially good. Also some great fresh bakery treats. Not a huge market, but quality offerings.

City Council lack of investment in the stalls now scruffy and dilapidated. Less farmers and more fast food wagons/stalls. Less customers due to lack of advertising by council. I have gone there most weeks for my shopping. Used to be a great market now turning...More

Gone down hill since last visit. Fewer stalls all selling much the same. Not worth going although accept it was a rainy Edinburgh Saturday. Going to try the Stockbridge Market to see if better.

If you love getting fresh breakfast from a market, I can't think of many better than this. It's sat right underneath Edinburgh castle. So you can stroll up towards the Royal Mile with your artisan coffee and a pretzel - or whatever takes your fancy....More

Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in
industrial Britain had their most desirable
neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes.
Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest
citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind
grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel
crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and
sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along
