We purchased a 24hr ticket that allowed us to use all the of the 4 tours available and at are on speed, could hope for lunch any where and then board again. We used two different tours and found this a great way of seeing Edinburgh as we only had the one day.

Authentic routemaster double-decker bus, which hadn't been spoilt. Husband a little disappointed that they had changed it to a modern engine. Barry & Magda provided a very entertaining and informative hours excursion around the main sites of Edinburgh. Children were fully entertained and engaged for entire duration. These trips are always a little pricey, but thoroughly enjoyable.

We took these tours in several cities including Edinburgh, Dublin and York. The tour was an audio recording and it was difficult to hear and understand. While there, we never managed to get on one of the buses with live speaker. If I had to do it over again, I would check out some of the other companies. Despite signs... More

This tour was so much fun. The route it takes is great as it takes in so many places so just wouldn't find on your own. I learnt so many historical facts from the tour guide - and also lots of local gossip history. Agnes my guide is a credit to this company. She was simply brilliant. £14 for a... More

Very good . The tour guide knowledge was second to none . Brilliant knowledge of the city . Although it's very good and all be sure to wrap up warm on a even slightly cold day as it gets very cold on top . Worth the money as the ticket is 24 hours . Can get on and off as... More

£33.00 for a full 24 hour pass on this open topped bus tour of Edinburgh. You can get off and on wherever you wish and there is a lady giving a brief account of the sites and attractions as you pass them. A good way to get some good photographs of the city without too much walking. We started and... More

GerryR18 Good point about the photos, an open-top tour bus really is the best place to take photos of our beautiful city. Thank you for hopping on and for recommending us so highly here. With kind regards Elaine More

I have only recently been taking bus tours of cities. They are the best way to get a quick insight to a new city and to get your bearings. Mac Tours provided a great introduction to Edinburgh for me. I didn't quite finish the whole circuit as I saw the cashmere shops in Lawnmarket and leapt off the bus lured... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
