Lovely venue

Came to see Bianca Del Rio here. Lovely venue. Don't think there is a bad seat in the house. Bar staff were a bit slow but all staff were friendly

Went to see Deacon Blue. The upper circle is really high and my partner found it really difficult. They were so understanding and changed our tickets for the standing area. Wonderful show. Really enjoyed the evening. Thought we were going to have to leave. As long as you don't have any problems with heights the upper circle is fine. If... More

I'm glad I had a seat at the end of the row. That made it possible to stay for the 2-hour concert with the St. Petersburg symphonic orchestra. It was a very good concert. The sound trawled well from the stage to the Upper circle. Not always the case at a theatre or an arena. The service in this place... More

I have visited Usher Hall on numerous occasions over the years. It is always a pleasurable experience with pleasant staff, great facilities, comfortable seating and outstanding sound quality. On this occasion I was seated in the Organ Gallery behind the stage for a performance by Nicola Benedetti. It's not very often the Organ Gallery is opened up for public sale,... More

The first thing you notice is the contrast between the classical exterior and the modern glass extension. Initially I was unsure but I must say it is visually stunning. The theatre itself (stage and seats etc) is really spacious and you feel really close to the stage. The staff are really friendly and I noticed that they even seemed to... More

We booked to see the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. I was concerned because previous venues we visited have sat us behind pillars or in seats with poor views. I was pleasantly surprised that there don't seem to be any such seats in the Usher Hall. We sat in the front row of the Grand Circle. We have an outstanding view... More

I went to see the Bowie Experience here - absolutely amazing show if you're a fan, very highly recommended! The grandeur of the place is great, the seats are well placed to allowed everybody to be able to enjoy the show. The staff are professional, well dressed and friendly. The drinks were on the more expensive side, it cost me... More

Good venue nice that the seats were removed and there was standing at this concert. As the average age at this concert was probably 45 it was all very civilised. There were bars open on each floor and lift access if required. The seating is a little cramped as in keeping with the buildings age and design

Adequate amount of bars and toilets, city centre location, ample parking not too far away and pleasant enough staff with nice enough surroundings. I cannot rave about this place but I certainly cannot say a thing negatively...just a very pleasant venue that won't blow your socks off but certainly won't disappoint. We came here to see Frank Turner and had... More

I was here for the Passenger concert which was utterly brilliant. I thought the acoustics for the support act from where I was sitting were a bit odd, but the main act was superb. The view was great due to the raked seating, the seats were slightly cramped, and I had to leave my set about 45 minutes before the... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
