We had a few hours spare so we visited Malleny Garden - our visit lasted about an hour. Although an interesting garden it was in need of tlc. Roses were disappointing and although the layout was interesting we found nothing to really stimulate a desire...More

Had no trouble finding the garden just followed the signs at the traffic lights in Balerno and again just before the shops the road took us in past the rugby ground . The parking is for about a dozen spaces but we were the only...More

I think the most exciting part of the garden is the collection of Roses and the twisted yew tree (you can climb). when we're there last week, no roses blooms. perhaps it will be pretty with all the roses in bloom

This is a wee National Trust garden on the outskirts of Edinburgh at Balerno, worth a visit if you are close by. Secluded and tranquil, really. Like a lot of NT properties not worth paying a fortune for but if you buy annual membership then...More

It's not easy to find. Not helped by the lack of a postcode on the National Trust website. Try using the one for Currie Rugby Club, as it's right next door - EH14 7AF. And don't go to Currie - as Currie Rugby Club is...More

As a keen visitor to National Trust gardens I'm sad to give Malleny such a poor rating, but it felt deserted and unloved. I visited in late June, lured by knowing that it has an important collection of roses, but hardly anything was out and...More

We were here on a Friday evening for a Bat Walk. The grounds and gardens are absolutely lovely and there were bats aplenty. Very knowledgeable Ranger guided us through our visit - a must if you have kids or are simply batty.

This is definitely not a stand-out NTS site. Signage is poor in getting to the limited parking area at the side of a narrow road in the woods. The garden itself is nothing special and would be great with a bit more care and attention....More

Visited during a hot sunny stll day in the Indian Summer of 2015. Tranquil formal garden at end of summer growth - but much in need of management and tidying. Lots of butterflies. Historic rose collection not well conserved at present. Noted that volunteers were...More
