Hidden beneath the Royal Mile lies Edinburgh’s deepest secret: a warren of hidden ‘closes’ where real people lived, worked and died. For centuries they have lain forgotten and abandoned…until now. Visit Edinburgh's most famous Close, which makes Edinburgh's Hidden History unmissable.

We are glad we took this tour as it showed us exactly what people lived through in that time. There are uneven floors and dark rooms so if you cannot handle this then do not go. The stories were very interesting and the tour guide...More

We thought this was a special place. Excellent guide, acting in character. Great atmosphere and lighting. The ghost section would be even better with some apparitions!!

Tom gave us the best tour, with lots of animation and storytelling. He had patience with our quiet tour group, and stayed chipper and animated the whole time. Three cheers for Tom!

Sandy was an excellent tour guide and it was an amazing insightful tour. A labarinth of a hidden city waiting to be explored. It gave a real feel of what it would have been like in the days of the Black Plague.

The tour guide, Katy was knowledgeable and friendly. Overall the tour was quite interesting but I didn't feel it was worth the money. £10pp would be a more realistic price.

This was quite an interesting attraction. Our guide was great and we learned a lot. Wish that it was a longer tour with a smaller group

Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
