The Oxford Bar is one of Edinburgh's most historic pubs serving several local real ales. The staff were very friendly and engaging.

We enjoyed our visit to the Oxford Bar. There was a decent choice of drinks, the prices were reasonable and, for spirits, the measures were bigger - 35 ml instead of the usual 25 ml. The bar area is pretty small but the barman and...More

A quintessential "old-man" pub. Good range of local ales, no loud music so you can actually hear your friends/family, plenty of space, friendly bar staff. A great little pub, and will be visiting again soon!

I often call in here when I’m in Edinburgh, this time it was quiet and looking a bit ‘tired’. What they don’t do is play on the Rebus thing, there’s a couple of pictures but that’s it, some other places would be flogging t shirts,...More

As a fan of Detective Inspector Rebus I was keen to see where he is meant to treat as his local. This is a great old style pub and the absolute bonus was that Rebus's creator Ian Rankin was in there having a pint, made...More

I’ve read all the Ian Rankin mysteries but the Oxford Bar was a big disappointment. This is a tourist trap trap that doesn’t even try to be authentic. They don’t serve Deuchars IPA, the bartender is rude, and the tiny clan of regulars is catatonic....More

The Oxford Bar is all I imagined it would be. I've been several times on this trip. The Bar Lady offered a cheery greeting on entering the pub the first time I went. There's a couple of stools at the bar, which seems predominantly locals,...More

Really disappointed, spent 3 days in Scotland came back via Edinburgh as a fan of Rankin (mightily excited), made everyone go on a mini tour and finished up at the Oxford Bar. Except there was a notice displayed to say no children allowed. So just...More

The Oxford Bar is a pub situated on Young Street, in Edinburgh's New Town and has achieved notoriety for having been featured in Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus series of novels. The Oxford Bar, or The Ox, is John Rebus's favourite pub in Edinburgh. So if...More

New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town,
until after dark when strappy dresses come out to

with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many
of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest

helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned
Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric
