This once fantastic Street is sadly lacking the halcyon days of the 70's & 80's. There are still some great Hotels and shop's but overall it has lost it's former majestic splendour.

The best way to appreciate Princes Street is to turn your back on most of the tawdry shops and look at the Castle and the Gardens and the High Street.

Probably the only one sided shopping thoroughfare in the world with Princes Street Gardens & Edinburgh Castle on the other side

Like a lot of high streets a lot of empty shops. Also the roadworks are a pain.

As long as the council isn't allowing for all kinds of temporary barriers and other ugly nonsense and cheap shops to be there it really is a spectacular place and could with a bit of respect rival George St

Tram nonsense has ruined the buzz of Princess street. Most shops are run-of-the-mill corporations with little to offer but high prices and 'Tartan-tat' tourist traps offering knock-down 'bargains' on knock-off kilts and golf clubs.

Not my favorite part of the day chaos for a family walk very over crowded for just the average high street shops except if youre making a visit to Jenners which also was chaos

Once a famous street for its array of shops; now it's rundown and down market. And the mess made by the ongoing tram works, well that's a joke!

I do like visiting Princes Street, the view of the castle etc is incredible, however, the shops are a wee bit disappointing!

I love walking along Princes Street for the backdrop of the Old town, Castle and gardens. Shame about the quality of the shops these days. Bring back the old much more grand stores of my childhood please!

Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street
is only half one, since buildings only line one side.
But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views
are from Princes Street as a result. From here you
look onto expansive and decorative public gardens
beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s
Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old
town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look
