    A Royal Graceland!
This is a wonderful experience, a true and fascinating insight into Her Majesty’s favourite castle on the sea. It is set up wonderfully and the phone guide is informative and easy to listen to. It may be an odd comparison but The Royal Yacht and Graceland in Memphis are exceptional insights into how life once was for their remarkable owners! Highly recommended, no - essential to visit.
Thank you for your glowing review of The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are thrilled to read that you found your tour to be a wonderful and fascinating insight into life at sea for the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen. We appreciate your recommendation to others.

    COMPLETELY ENGROSSING
You dont have to be particularly interested in the Royal Family or ships to appreciate this wonderful visitor experience. The free audio guide takes you around every part of the ship from the bridge to the engine room with detailed descriptions of what you can see. There is a tremendous contrast between the opulence of the Royal rooms compared with the incredibly cramped quarters of the crew. It takes at least 90 mins to complete the tour which is really well laid out and easy to follow. Highly recommended.
It is wonderful to read your five-star experience aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are pleased to know you found the tour well laid out and easy to follow. Our complimentary audio guide directs visitors through our five decks, from the Bridge, State Apartments to the Engine Room. As you mention, the Crew’s Quarters were indeed cramped however, whenever the Royal Yachtsmen return to Britannia for their Annual Working party, they speak so fondly of their time on board. It is kind of you to highly recommend Britannia to others.

    Delicious afternoon tea
Visited Britannia for an afternoon tea. Service was prompt and the food was prepared to a very high standard. The sandwiches were delicious and clearly very freshly made. Superb restaurant in an iconic location made for a great day out.
The Royal Deck Tearoom is indeed the perfect place to relax and enjoy our delicious freshly prepared sandwiches, cakes, and scones while aboard Britannia. Our Tearoom team will be thrilled to know that you enjoyed their five-star service and mouthwatering food. Your positive feedback means a lot to us, and we hope to welcome you back for another great day out soon!

    Excellent
Excellent day out exploring this fascinating ship; it’s a very different royal residence to one you might see in a palace, etc. You can see the Queen’s personal touches here. The audio tour is excellent and there’s lots of the ship to explore, from the posh bit to the crew quarters and engine room. A must for anyone with an interest in ships or the royal family. Fascinating and well worth the entrance fee.
It is wonderful to read your five-star review about visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia. It is fantastic that you had an excellent day exploring the many areas of the Yacht used by the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen. The simple yet elegant furnishings you see on Britannia were chosen by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to create the feeling of a country home at sea.

    Great day out
Me and my mum visited the Royal Britannia recently on a trip to Edinburgh. The experience was very informative and interactive, with all people given an audio "phone" to listen to information in each room entered making the experience easier and allowing all to move at their own pace. All staff were helpful, in particular, Lesley who took pictures for me and my mum and provided her time, without the feeling of being rushed and full of information which the audio had not covered. Overall a great experience, but would not recommend for those who can't walk far, although there are lifts provided. Would definitely return!
How lovely to learn that you and your mum had a great day out, exploring the five decks of The Royal Yacht Britannia. Indeed, our complimentary audio guide is engaging and informative, allowing visitors to tour the Yacht at their own pace. Lesley will be delighted to know that she made your visit extra special. Our Visitor Assistants are always happy to speak with visitors and tell them more fascinating stories about life on board and take your photo with your phone or camera too. For the information of others, Britannia is highly accessible with lifts and ramps to all levels and seating throughout the tour route where you can sit and enjoy your audio guide.

    Wonderful experience
I thought the entire tour was brilliant. I loved the way it was laid out and the audio guide (included) helped a lot. It was nice to see such an historic vessel. We had a sandwich in the tea room which has a nice view. We had a 10:00 time slot and went to the tea room around 11:45, within 15 minutes the line for the tea room was very long. So if you want to eat go early!
We greatly appreciate your glowing review! It is fantastic to learn that you found the entire tour to be outstanding. Indeed, our free audio guide directs visitors through the tour route with ease. A visit to the Royal Deck Tearoom to savour a delightful meal while enjoying a picturesque view is a perfect addition to any visit. Thank you for rating your visit five stars.

    fairly good
I came here with my partner, and we were very impressed, least not we bought our tickets in advance given we did not know how busy it would be. When we arrived we were greeted by one of your colleagues who was very welcoming and advised us before going on the Britannia there was a short exhibition which was very enjoyable as it was well laid out and plenty to see, look at and learn about and a reminder to all how much Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are missed but their duty both to the people of this country, the Commonwealth and the wider world. Before boarding and we picked up our handsets we were met by another of your colleagues, sadly he did not engage with my partner and I but he did engage with a couple in front of us albeit with small talk and we felt this was a little rude. Once we picked up our handsets, we started our tour, and we noticed the weather had started to become a little inclement and some of the tour was outside as well as other people were also in a hurry to get inside which meant they were rushing around, and we could not always see what was being spoken about as at various points there were too many people. As we made our way round the Yacht we learnt many things and felt a part of history and yet when we got to one point we saw one of your colleagues outside who I will be honest was not as receptive as the other people we met, I smiled at her, I said hello to her but she said nothing and if anything she looked a little bored and I think this let other people down as they also said hello and smiled but she said and did nothing in return. At the end of the tour my partner and I went into the shop and didn’t buy anything, but we did find many of the items very expensive given what they were, and this is not the place for cheap memorabilia. All in all we were impressed as the staff team looked very smart and we would visit again even if the area of Leith is a little undesirable and some of the shops inside the shopping centre look a little outdated and yet is served well by public transport, so much so my partner and I caught the tram from the centre of Edinburgh and this takes about 20 minutes in both directions.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia. We appreciate your kind words and are glad to read that you had an enjoyable experience. We are sorry to read about your experience with some of our Visitor Assistants, we will pass on your comments to our Visitor Experience Manager to ensure we provide a five-star experience to every guest. As you mention, Ocean Terminal, where Britannia is berthed, is easily reached by tram from Edinburgh’s city centre.

    Classy .....
Don't expect Buckingham Palace type of glitz and glam. The private yacht is English elegant and quite understated in decor. At over 400' and a crew of 220 plus 45 servants it IS the way to travel. The self paced tour with a hand held recorder with information on each "stop" was easy to use. If time permits, visit the on board tea room for a snack or light lunch. How many people can say they ate on the Britannia ? LOL. The yacht is one of the stops on the HopOn HopOff route so you can easily work it into your Edinburgh stay.
How wonderful to read your five-star review of The Royal Yacht Britannia. Indeed, Britannia was decorated in a simple yet elegant way to create the intended feeling of a country home afloat. It is great that you found the self-guided tour with our complimentary audio guide to be informative and easy to use. Visiting our onboard Royal Deck Tearoom to enjoy our delicious food and drinks is indeed a special treat. As you mention, Britannia is easily accessible from Edinburgh city centre, via the Majestic Bus Tours and Bright Bus Tours. Thank you for taking the time to write a five-star review.

    An insight to another world
I have always wanted to see this yacht and I wasn't disappointed. It is beautiful and elegant and gives you a look at a world totally unknown to us. The Royal family lived and loved this yacht and you can see why in the decor the family sitting room and all the areas where they could enjoy and relax. The handset that you use to take you through the tour is easy to use and one of the staff gives instruction at the beginning. You can listen to it all or move on to something you may find more interesting. There was a lot of visitors on the day we went so progress through the boat was a bit slow so I would allow a good 2-3 hours to see it all
What a pleasure to welcome you onboard The Royal Yacht Britannia! We are delighted to read that the tour met your expectations and left you in awe of its beauty and elegance. By exploring the Yacht, visitors do gain an insight into life onboard for the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen. It is great that you found our free audio guide user-friendly and that our staff offered helpful instructions. We suggest visitors allow one and a half to two hours to tour Britannia, allowing extra time to visit the Royal Deck Tearoom and Gift Shop. Thank you for rating your visit five stars.

    Nice experience
Interesting to see how the royal family enjoyed their time on the yacht. Nice and homely. A big difference from the paces and antique furniture. The yacht wasn't as big as I had imagined but still spent a good few hours there.
We appreciate you taking the time to write a five-star review about your tour of The Royal Yacht Britannia. The Yacht was built in the 1950s, in a time of post war austerity, which visitors can see by the simple yet elegant furnishings on board. We look forward to welcoming you back for more discoveries!

Went with my dad who has limited mobility. All of the staff without exception were super with him, very friendly and welcoming but also very patient. We were offered the use of a wheelchair whilst we toured the yacht and it was so easy to get round the yacht in a wheelchair - one of the best places to cater with disabled that I have been to
It was fascinating to see how the Queen used to travel as well as all the staff with her. And was different to just going round a stately home. The audio guide was also a great idea as meant my dad could listen to everything, whereas when its all written down, he struggles to read everything
There was also a fun "find the corgi" trail for children
The tea room is pricey, but then how often can you say you've had tea and scones where the Queen has also dined!
If you're in Edinburgh can only recommend you visit - especially on a February day!

What a lovely review! We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed exploring Britannia’s five decks and learning about life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew. As you mention, the Royal Yacht is a highly accessible visitor attraction with lifts and ramps between each of the decks and an accessible tour route, for wheelchairs of up to 67cm width. Indeed, the tour is self-guided using our complimentary audio handset, allowing visitors to explore Britannia at their own leisure, whilst learning about the Royal Yacht’s unique history. We are pleased to learn that our cuddly corgi treasure hunt proved to be such a hit – we hope you managed to spot them all! An absolute highlight of our visit to Edinburgh was taking a bus to Leith to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia! What a stunning place to visit, the whole tour is perfect with excellent commentary. Allow at least 2-3 hours hours to get the most out of your visit as there is so much history to absorb and it would be a shame to rush through. The views are absolutely stunning from the decks. We would also recommend afternoon tea in the restaurant either during or once you have finished, service is friendly and welcoming whilst being professional. We would definitely visit again, as this is a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended.

We pre-booked a ticket for myself and my wife (who works for the NHS) purchased a discounted ticket at the desk .
The tour starts by going through the museum and onto the top deck . You can get an audio handset or download it onto your phone.
It was fascinating and informative , seeing all aspects of life on board from the crew to the royal Family. We absolutely loved it

Also liked the Royal Tea rooms where we had Scones and Tea - delscious . We would thoroughly recommend if you are in Edinburgh , buses go to the ocean Terminal for the tour.

Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia and for providing such a great review. As you say, our audio guides give a wonderful insight into what life was like on board for the Royal Family and those who served on board as Royal Yachtsmen. Very well organised and maintained tourist attraction. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice touch of humour with comical placement of toy corgis in most rooms (especially the sick bay). Included in admission price were handsets with very informative audio guide which was very good and top marks for having Welsh as an option. Very interesting and informative visit with plenty to see. We were lucky that it was quiet so could wander without crowds . Not suitable in bad weather as decks are obviously open . Spent couple of hours easily. Finished trip with lovely lunch of sandwiches and soup or sandwiches and scones. Very pleasant and enjoyable.

The yacht itself was beautiful, the rooms were lovely and stunning to see. Upon entry you have a walkthrough and see photos and printed information on the walls. At the end of this, you are advised that you will be given what looks like a phone to listen to the information provided in different languages and there are signs posted advising which number you need to press to listen to the relevant information.
About half way through the walk through of the yacht, there are signs for the Tea Rooms and there is a short wait depending on the time of day on your visit. The menu is not large but is very nice and I highly recommend the potato wedges. It isn't cheap as we had soup/sandwich, cake and a drink and it worked out about £35 for 2 people.

The downside of this was that I am hard of hearing and could not listen to the information provided on the 'telephones'. I asked if there were sign posted information inside the yacht or any other type of information available and was told no. It would have been helpful if I could have been given a leaflet to read about each area so that I could fully enjoy the visit as I felt I was missing out on information given to other tourists...

Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are pleased that you found Britannia stunning to see. As you kindly mention, our complimentary audio guided tour allows you to explore Britannia’s five decks at your own pace. The tour can be listened to on our audio handset which works with the T-loop system, or personal mobile phone, on both of which the volume can be controlled. The self-led tour allows you to learn about life on board, whilst taking in as much or as little of the tour as you wish. We do apologise that you were not offered another version as we do have a printed version of the script, as well as tablets available with the Britannia tour in British and American Sign Language. We will of course pass your feedback regarding the audio tour onto our Visitor Experience Manager, as we are always keen to make improvements where possible. We hope to welcome you back aboard to fully experience all five decks with your free Annual Pass. For the information of others, admission to Britannia is less than other top Edinburgh attractions and includes an Annual Pass, which allows each visitor to return free of charge, for up to a year. Britannia has been named as the UK’s Best Visitor Attraction 2020 by Which? Magazine, and has retained its Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best Award for the 9th consecutive year, making us one of the Top 1% in the World.

We really enjoyed this. To be honest, I wasn’t that bothered about going but it turned out to be one of my favourite things in Edinburgh. It is an easy bus ride from the city centre, with buses running very frequently back and forth. It was really interesting and you get to see lots of the rooms. The audio tour was great, one of the best audio tours that I’ve done. The tour is a set one way route, which means that you don’t miss anything. Would recommend a trip to the tea room as well. It’s really good and reasonably priced. We got to the tea room about midday and it was already busy. The queue shortly after that was quite long, I imagine in summer there would be quite a wait for a table so it could be wise to plan for before or after that peak lunch period. The souvenir shop is really overpriced, which is a shame really because it means people are less likely to buy. But that certainly doesn’t detract from the attraction itself.

If the weather is chilly (as it was in February) this is a really good way to fill 2 or 3 hours and stay relatively warm.

Well presented audio tour and some fascinating artifacts to see. The yacht is in great shape and it’s easy to get an impression of how it functioned.

Even better is the insight it provides into the lives of the royals whilst they were on board.

The tea room on the top deck is well worth a visit - a little pricey but great service and tasty too.

I wasn't sure about going here, but I went anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was great to see this ship, a piece of Royal history, preserved like this. The audio tour was full of interesting facts and guided you round the yacht at your own pace.
I loved hearing about the running of the yacht and about all the people who worked on board and their jobs. The living accommodation was also very interesting.
We had a cuppa in the cafe but didn't eat there.
I thought it was worth the money (£17.50) and would highly recommend as something to do when visiting Edinburgh.

This is a great place to visit any day but especially on a wet, windy day as, if you park in the Blue Car Park (level E), you are indoors for the vast majority of the time.
Brittania is thoughtfully and sympathetically presented and you can do the tour at your leisure using a smart phone or a cleaned and sanitised individual handset. Parking and the use of the handset are both free.
The staff are cheery, welcoming and very helpful. Great efforts were made to keep the floors in the lift tower dry and safe.
The royal yacht is beautiful and I can understand Her Majesty's great affection for her. I still haven't forgiven Tony Blair for her decommissioning!

Parking in the Blue Car Park on Level E will bring you out closest to our Visitor Centre. As you mention, our visitors enjoy Britannia’s complimentary audio handset or you can listen to the tour on your mobile phone, as it enables you to explore the five decks at your own pace, whilst gaining an insight into life on board.

A worth visit! Very interesting and informative. You really get an impression of how the life was back then on the Britannia, when it was still active.
I would definitely recommend to book the audioguide tour around the museum and inside the ship, since you get a lot of extra information.
Important: In the days of Covid-19, you should wear a mask, since it is not always possible to maintain social distancing. Also you have to book a time slot and buy the ticket in advance.
A must see for everyone visiting Edinburgh!

We are thrilled that you found your tour of Britannia to be interesting and informative, exploring the five decks and learning about life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew of Royal Yachtsmen. Indeed, the tour is self-guided using Britannia’s complimentary audio guide, which is now also available on your mobile phone. As you say, the wearing of masks aboard Britannia is compulsory, and you can be assured that we are fully adhering to all published guidelines to ensure that our visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience. Thank you for visiting and for recommending us to others as a ‘must-see’ attraction in Edinburgh!
