Educational, fun and interesting. Free and only excepts donations which I found great as a student :)

Our guides name was Ryan! He was fantastic! He knows Scottish history like the back of his hand and has a great sense of humor! We were able to go to places we otherwise wouldn't have been able to. It was well worth it. We will definitely go on the other tours when we get back to Edinburgh. Would recommend... More

Our guide don (not to be confused with Donald) really made the trip. He was funny, engaging and attentive. His constant chatter made the drive go by really fast. I would love to go on his isle of sky tour he mentioned!

The tour was fun! A great way to cram as much of the highlands in as possible. Our tour guide was Don, and he was a funny, informative, and empathetic driver. Upon reviewing the worst reviews and comparing it to my experience, either a LOT has changed (which means they listened to the reviews) or these people have an object... More

Their website says that people who didn't register for the tour can show up at the tour departure time, and any available seats will be given on a first come first serve basis. I showed up half an hour early before the tour started, and I was the first to arrive. Behind me were a couple who also did not... More

Hi hellocouscous, I'm very disappointed to read your review of our business, especially since it seems that although you obviously wished to do so, you didn't actually book or experience our tours in any way. You are correct that on our website it does indeed suggest that for tours that are already full to capacity, if people wish to do... More

The fact that this is a free (pay-what-you-want) excursion doesn't have any effect on the quality of the tour. The guide, Donald, was extremely informative and seemed to know a contextualized history of all of Scotland throughout its hundreds-years life. He was very pro-Scotland in all senses. We enjoyed several stops that were interesting for their natural beauty, their historical... More

I took out an entire class of high school kids out on the trip and it was simply all we had hoped it would be and much much more. Our excellent guide was Kyle and within the five first minutes the girls all fell in love with him and all the guys wanted to grow up to be just like... More

We took this tour out of Edinburgh, just to get a sense of the Scottish landscape, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The driver Ryan was delightful, full of historical and cultural information. The Wallace memorial, Doune Castle and the 'hairy coos' were a few of the highlights of this tour. Plus we had lunch in a charming small town, adding... More

We really enjoyed this tour! There were a lot of great stops which are especially interesting for people who visit Edinburgh and the area for the first time. The tour guide had a lot of knowledge and stories to tell. Obviously, the highlight was the stop for the highland cows! So cute! We got a lot of great pictures with... More

The tour guide really knows his way around the highlands. Great tour, funny and informative. Very good selection of the places we went to. This tour gives you a pretty good impression of the beauty of the scottish land. Since I couldn't afford one of the expensive tours, this one is a nice alternative!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
