I spent one night in what was apparently a newly refurbished Superior Double room, and it was indeed very tastefully done, and plenty of plug sockets - one of my bugbears! Bathroom was also very nicely decorated and suitably equipped (toothpaste and brush available from reception). Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Great location just across from Charlotte Sq... More

Afternoon tea was fabulous, loads of choice and the staff here were great. However the real let down was Dani who works in the spa. After having to walk about it towels to a room because of the showers not working, we asked for robes and slippers (which was included in our experience), I felt she was very rude and... More

Swimming pool, sauna, steam room quite dliapidated and requires significant refurbishment and not what you would expect for this star standard hotel. Changing rooms even worse with skirting boards coming off in toilet and quite dirty. The spa day and treatment was fine but far too busy not enough loungers for clientele to relax etc. Don't think we will be... More

Clean and central location. Service can be slow in the morning at breakfast. However afternoon tea was superb. Although our complaint was dealt with promptly. If you are staying over the function rooms you may be subjected to high levels of music till 1 am in the morning if there is a party on.

1st visit to Edinburgh in over 30 years. On entering the hotel the staff were very polite professional and informative. The rooms are traditional spacious and well stocked. The restaurant served superb food and the waiters are friendly. All in all a great start to our mini vacation 👍

I visited the Roxburghe today with my sister and we were generally impressed with the spa day we had. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and made us feel at ease from the moment we arrived. We had been given the 'champagne celebration' package as a present. The treatment rooms and relaxation areas were both immaculate and relaxing. The treatments... More

Stayed here on Boxing Day. Lovely hotel & room in city centre location, minutes from the shops and bars of George Street. Would stay again.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
