There are castles you visit on a formal basis and then there's Morton Castle. There's no turnstile, no admission charge, no gift shop, nothing at all like that. Just a castle ruin across a field, with a commanding view over a small loch and the...More

Morton Castle is marked on the map but there are no signposts from the main road, which is probably a good thing as it means there is not an over abundance of visitors You go up a single track road and there is parking for...More

We visit regularly giving are dog an evening walk. The hardest part is finding it if you don't know where it is. There is a useful information board but the ruins themselves are not very big and 5 minutes allows you to see it all....More

this place should be advertised more as it is difficult to find. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and it unspoiled by civilisation

Hauntingly beautiful castle set in amazing scenery. An amazing building that has easy access well worth a visit only draw back is the single track road to get there

We had a short but very pleasant walk around Morton Castle, its hard to find if you're driving, but worth seeing. Wonderful view out over the man made loch, and the ruins are very brooding and atmospheric.

We headed here after visiting Drumlanrig. We found the castle fairly easily using Google Maps. The road itself is single track the nearer you get to the castle but I was impressed by the condition of it, there wasn't the usual potholes associated with these...More

I looked this castle up on the Historic Scotland website before visiting. It said it was 'notoriously difficult to find' and that was certainly the case. We didn't see one sign for it but managed to get to the general area without too much effort...More
