We popped in as we were passing with our kids, 9 and 6. The staff couldn't have been better! They told their story well and made sure to use words that our young kids would understand. They included them in everything and even posed for photos after the tour. Well done to the staff.

Went last Easter, had never been before. Think I enjoyed it more than kids did. Was interesting, friendly staff, was able to go up on the roof also. There are stairs so may not suit all visitors.

An small interresting historic tower in the centre of Alloa. I went there with my kids, unfortunately it is not allowed to take pictures inside the tower but took several of the stunning views, we could even see Stirling castle in the distance. We got good information about the history of the tow by an nice woman who worked there,... More

I read that the tower was open on Doors Open Day so went along to have a look inside. Before going inside the tower the area outside had a demonstration of medieval cooking. On entering I was greeted by guides dressed in fantastic costumes which really provided a great start to the visit. Inside the rooms are furnished with tapestries... More

Alloa Tower looks most impressive from the outside. The majestic tower literally grows out of the ground and has been wonderfully well restored. It promises so much. However, ... Inside, however, on the day of our visit, there was not a great deal to see. Indeed, I don't think there is anything of great interest to be seen on any... More

We are dissapointed to read this review as we pride ourselfs in having a very good rating in good visitor services from our staff and volunteers and an award of Excellence from trip advisor. Yes, we do have two portraits by Henry Raeburn and one by Van Dyck so puzzled that you missed them. The tower is fully furnished with... More

According to the NTS, this is Scotland's oldest and largest keep. It is also the ancestral seat of the Erskine clan. My mother's maiden name was Erskine, so I was interested to visit the tower while I was in Scotland. While I'm not sure how closely related I am to the people who lived here, it was a very interesting... More

My family visited Alloa Tower to explore some of my husband's ancestoral history (he's an Erskine). The volunteers were very kind and helpful. They gave us some books about castles for my son to look at, which allowed us some time to enjoy the tower while he was occupied. The tower itself was interesting and the grounds were quite nice.

I visited on a fairly miserable July day but the enthusiasm of the volunteers was heart warming. There is a great short video to start off your visit - don't miss it - then you start your long, slow climb up through the property. I am nearer seventy than seventeen but still managed to climb to the roof space. The... More
