Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have regularly ridden GT for the past year and it never disappoints as there’s something for everyone. Some trails have been altered or shut for upcoming UCI World Championships or the creation of Forest Holiday lodges but there’s always plenty to divert to if you use a specialist MTB app like trailforks. No trails are currently shut due to storm damage from what I know so the previous poster must have run into construction closures but like I say there’s a mix of blacks to greens to challenge any rider and I anticipate plenty new stuff after the UCI have left town

Went to ride the famous MTB trails. Hugely disappointed to find that many sections of the trails were closed due to storm damage (fallen trees), so had to follow long diversions on the forest tracks. The trees had obviously been down for many months, so not sure why they couldnt get them cleared quickly with chainsaws. Lots of work happening on new trails and trail centre (currently closed). Will be great again when it is all open - dont bother travelling before then though.

Hired a bike the night before online and visited Glentress with my son and Nephew.
Shop and staff couldn’t be nicer, carbon bike was great. Trails were also very good, and pretty full on.
Can’t recommend them enough.
I also can’t believe Google and Trip Advisor combined to post a bad review from 2010 as its lead search, that’s 11 years ago, ignore this utter rubbish, top people and well run business in difficult times, and the review is classic Trip Advisor misrepresentation.

Just back from three days mountain biking in Glentress and Innerleithen area. Rented an eMTB for the duration from Alpine Bikes and had a brilliant experience thanks to the quality of the bike and friendly service from Mark and David. Recommend a visit, great riding and great service!

Good options for most levels of walkers, but choose a day when there are no bike events. Sons assure us that the biking trails offer good biking experience for the family.

I Hired an Ebike for a loop of the black trails at glentress. Ended up doing both the red and black trails. The staff at alpine bikes were excellent, friendly and knowledgable. Bike set up perfect. Can highly recommend as a demo day to all mountain bikers thinking of getting an Ebike.
The red and black trails are both great and skills park is Well worth a Few laps

1st visit to the trails here and they certainly don't disappoint, did the black route straight off the bat and it broke me a little, did a bit of pushing up but the flies took a shine to me so stopping wasn't an option.
The downhills are ace though and well worth the climbing, spooky wood is great fun and even the blue at the end is pretty mega with great flow, just a shame it's so far away.

Once again the team at the Glentress hotel did not disappoint. We spent 3 glorious days mountain biking around Glentress and Innerlithian in October and were completely looked after by Murray and his team. I highly recommend the hotel as a base for you mtb adventures. You wont be disappointed.

Can you hire bikes here? If so, how much is it for an hour?

Can kids go round trail alone 12 & 13?

Yes and no. The routes are marked for levels of difficulty, and some are obviously more tricky than others - it depends on their cycling confidence and abilities. Personally, I would accompany younger riders on the steeper and more technical and perhaps avoid the orange sections altogether as these are the most challenging. The hire store gives good advice on route selection

Hi, can you bring your own bike, or do you have to hire? Thank you
You can bring your own, other than the parking fee, its free.

Would anyone recommend glentress for a good walk with my dog or would it be to dangerous for dogs??

There are separate waking trails you would be able to use for dog walking, some areas might require more caution where forest paths are shared between both bikes and walkers.

I am looking to visit Peebles with my partner and 1 year old daughter. We would like to hire bikes and go on a gentle cycle. Is there bike hire and suitable routes?
Thanks in advance

We had a great stay at the Lindores Guest House (B & B) in Peebles! We could place our bikes in their garage.

I am visiting Scotland in September and hope to have a day biking. We found a bus from Edinburgh to Peebles. Is there public transportation to Glentress?
Is Glentress bike up? Or are their shuttles to take us to the top?

I'm planning a trip to the 7 stanes in Glentress and I hope to visit all 7 of them if possible. What trails can I ride with a hardtail? It seems blue, green and red are fine. Orange and black are probably not suited for a hardtail, only for full suspension? What's your experience?

Dag Guy,

What type of bikes(full suspension?) are available and what is the cost per day? Is it easy to get shuttles to the trails?

Hi Martha, I was there a couple of days ago. I'm not a mountain bike expert but the bikes we hired seemed to me to be good quality, decent suspension and well maintained. There was also a range of sizes available. The bike hire shop is next to a large car park and you ride straight out onto the trails, which are well signposted. As a first-time visitor I thought the facilities were good.
