We have been visiting Dunollie each year for several years. It has been interesting to watch it develop as a visitor attraction. There is usually a guide in the small museum who can answer any questions, give background to the artefacts and the long history of the family. This year the castle itself was much more accessible even though there... More

Hidden away off the beaten track, this piece of Scottish history is a very interesting place to visit. The castle itself is under going restoration works so isn't fully accessible, but what you do get is a real feel of the history of the place, and its strategic importance. The views from the castle courtyard are spectacular. The grounds to... More

We had too short a time to visit the gardens, and the weather was cold and wet. But the visit was extremely interesting and I vowed to return as soon as possible to learn more of the historic connections of the castle. There is a large amount of Irish influence in the building methods that were employed in the castle.... More

A must-see! There are loads of pretty walks and trails that we didn't have the time to explore but I wish I'd done this instead of Pulpitt Hill or McCaig's Tower! Really beautiful views of the town and bay from the castle, and the grounds looked stunning.

Sadly the Castle was closed but there is a large hill behind it if you can make it to the top of the hill on a clear day you will be rewarded by one of the finest sights in the whole area.

While it makes for great pictures in the distance, Dunollie Castle is currently not open and being restorated. Walking to it and taking pictures along the coast is decent enough.

The Jacobite House holds the most interest as far as history is concerned as the castle itself is a ruin but does afford fabulous views over Oban Bay. Built as a stronghold originally of course. The catering facilities are a little restricted (a serving hatchery in a hut) with no inside dining space, only outside with some canvas awnings to... More
