Basically. Stunning. They rise out of the ground very sharply and dramatically . Very few natural growing trees . Covered in grassland that is grazed tightly by hill sheep . A beautiful picturesque, unspoilt landscape. Some peaks exceed 1900feet.

I went there on a cold but dry December day with my family. We started at Flotterstone, since we had seen that it was a good choice for family walks. We really enjoyed it! The views were very beautiful and the path was easily walkable. However, we thought we would gather more information in the information center where we arrived (we... More

This is definitely the place to go after a day in the hills. The team here could not have been more accommodating. We'd booked dinner, were running late, called them and they worked everything out for us keeping the kitchen open. Once the majority of walkers headed home for the night it felt like we were sharing the landlords house,... More

With goats. Lots of goats. I love the Pentlands and enjoy a nice long hike with my dog. It's beautiful and peaceful. But there are goats and rams not fenced in so if you have your dog just be aware these rams are not afraid of a dog.

Great views and lots of walks with various difficulty levels. Very close to the city, so perfect for a little trip away.

The pentlands cover a large area and provide a wide range of leisurely and more strenuous walks both short and full day outings. There are many websites with details of the routes and maps etc so easy to find information to plan your trip. Many of the walks are signposted as well as having good car parking facilities at the... The easiest way to get here from Edinburgh is by bus. Line 4 takes you to Hillend, from where you can do the 4km 'City View' walk. We extended the walk by going up the first row of hills, which gives you an amazing view over the rest of the Pentland Hills. Also, cows. They seems to be pretty uses... More

Only a short drive from Edinburgh town centre and it offers multiple picturesque walks up the hills. The two closest walks to town are moderate in nature and give great views over Edinburgh!

OK this is a bit biased but I love the pentlands (so much so I live here) there are beautiful walks, runs, bikes all over the area, (there is even open water swimming at threpmuir) we are only about 5 miles south of Edinburgh city center so close you can catch a bus :) but in some really beautiful countryside....
