The Catholic Cathedral of St Patrick is mesmerising and absolutely towers above the rest of the city of Arnagh. Its twin towers can be seen from almost anywhere in town and the views of the city from the top of its steps is quite superb.
I love how you can see the Protestant Cathedral from the main door as the two seem to gaze at each other from on high at different ends of the small city centre.
There is a guided tour apparently but we just did it ourselves. The interior is jaw dropping with amazing columns, arches and mosaics on the walls and ceilings. There are lovely stained glass windows throughout and a gleaming marble sabctuary.
The roof took a oht 5 decades to add because all the money collected to finish the cathedral had to be redirected to famine relief projects at the time. Watch for the 'famine line's in the roof.
Wonderfully peaceful, ornate and humbling. A must-do when in Armagh.

Very serene and inspiring. The stained glass windows and mosaics on the floor are beautiful works of art that deserve to be preserved. It was very calming to see others in prayer inside this silent place while the world outside seemed hurried and chaotic.

Armagh is known as the Cathedral City, thus no trip to this ancient town would be complete without taking in the impressive beauty of St Patrick's Cathedral. A majestic hilltop building of twin spires, grey stone, gothic architecture and ornate mosaics. It's worthwhile taking a guided tour of St Patrick's to hear about its origins, history and numerous architects. A hauntingly magnificent building which is stunning both inside and out and breathtaking to behold.

Walked the outside of this amazing Cathedral, very well kept grounds. The walk up the hill was a pleasant one as we could see the whole city from the steps

If you are really into churches and their architecture, like myself, then DO NOT leave Armagh without seeing this spectacular building. Built by the famed architect J.J. McCarthy (who also designed Monaghan Cathedral and the chapel at Maynooth College), this church is perhaps even more fascinating than the Church of Ireland Cathedral it was built to replace. Although Second Vatican was unkind to the sanctuary part of the cathedral, alot of the furnishings remain, such as the windows, the organ, and most spectacular of all, the painted ceiling, with pictures of the four Evangelists high above the crossing.

I have been here every time I go to Ireland/Northern Ireland. I love it - it's a beautiful building. I'm not religious by any means, but can appreciate the architecture and detail. It's very well kept Last visit was March 2012.

I came to Armagh for the first time this year to visit where my deceased father grew up. I know that he served as an altar boy at this extraordinary cathedral and when I attended Sunday Mass with the beautiful choir and organ, I got quite emotional. The mosaics are intricate and adorn every surface and don't forget to look out for the dead cardinals hats which are suspended from the roof around the altar in various stages of decay. Well worth a visit.
