Torr head is well worth the effort to get there. The Torr road is narrow, steep in parts and has many blind corners. Take it slow and you will be pleased you did as the views are superb. Its a steep walk up the hill for a stunning vista. There is a small car park thats free.

By good and bad I mean, It's absolutely the smallest one lane road I ever drove on. It is all uphill and pray no cars coming the other way LOL There's beautiful scenery but your eyes are glued to this bendy road , Only the passengers will enjoy it. Once at the top its beautiful views. Unfortunately, it was drizzling and not so good for us once we got to the top.

long and windy road to get there but the views along the way and at the destination are well worth it. road is narrow but not scary edge-of-the-cliff scary. torr head is a beautiful viewing point if you can get yourself up the steep climb. there is a dilapidated house at the top. climb the rusty ladder for even better views.

If you brave the narrow windy road and some blind corners, this drive is a fantastic experience. We followed the road from Cushendun to Ballycastle. The scenery and landscape are amazing and the short steep walk up to Torr Head is certainly worth it. Don't be afraid of the drive, just do it!

Whilst out motorbike touring on the Antrim Coastal Route this winter, I followed the brown Tourist signs to this View Point/ Tourist Spot.
The tight twisty roads, hugging the high coastline are in themselves a must do, following the signs for Torr Head, on the Torr Head Scenic Route.
It is a lovely spot, on a clear day, with amazing views of the ocean, the Antrim coast, far off knife edge horizon and with Scotland clear in the distance.
There is a narrow parking area for vehicles, easily accessed by car or motorcycle, but it is advised (both route and location) not suitable for coaches/caravans/motorhomes.
Having parked up, there is then a steep walk up to the Torr Head view point.
Once on top, there is an old and dilapidated building, which sadly is full of crude and offensive graffiti, and which is dangerous to enter, so my advice is not to!
If you go around to the right side of the building you can access a metal ladder to the roof, which is worth doing, as it is the highest point to view from, just be careful!
You can find various places to walk around the building, and off the beaten track, but walker beware, it is dangerous in places, particularly if you go close to the areas of high coast line.
I would have given it 5 stars, but it is sadly let down badly by the state of the old lookout building, but if you ignore that, be careful, and just take in the amazing views then it is very good.

Most terrifying road on the planet, but the views and the sites on Torr head are totally worth it. Do your research before you visit, as there is a lot there to explore and you need to know where you are going. Bring WATER PROOF HIKING BOOTS!!!

While driving in afternoon the Causeway Coastal Route starting from Carrickfergus we came across a roadsign "Torr Head Scenic Route" directing to a small road blocked for larger vans/trucks. As per map this detour would be close to coast compared to the Causeway to Ballyvoy . Hence we went for this detour.
Good decision : small (parts less than 1 1/2 car wide, apart from passing areas ) , winding road - but rather free of traffic (though one should be prepared , and be able to drive backwards for a couple of 100m - worst case) . Beautiful scenery and great views.
But spectacular views all the way - and a beautiful road for those that love to drive . We didn't climb to Torr Head viewing point though as there had been sufficient rain to soak the countryside and it was pretty stormy (and chilly) too.
This scenic drive has a side-road (close to Ballycastle) that leads to Murlough Bay. Really nice drive and more great scenery.

The drive to get to the view point is a bit gnarly, I do admit. In October the winds were absolutely ferocious and we could feel our car shaking a bit as we drove the curvy roads to the top. Once there, the main event is climbing ALL THE WAY up to the plateau above the ocean for what will surely be one of the most unforgettable vistas. I am a seasoned traveler with all sorts of views in my memory trunk (and on my memory cards!) and this was an speechless moment for me. The wind was knocking us off our feet as we climbed up, but it was 200% worth it. If you only get out of the car take a few photos and leave, you will miss tremendous beauty that will be revealed just a ten minute hike up the hill. Bring your best windbreaker and GO!

There is wonderful scenery from Torr Head and all along the narrow, windings roads that lead to the headland.
The last few km leading to the small car park at the base of the head is particularly narrow and steep. Parking is only available for a handful of cars: fortunately you can judge whether there are spaces from the top before the descent.
From the car park a short but steep walks lead to the top of the headland and offers great views, including across to Scotland.
A recommended deviation.

Driving to Torr Head from the south on Torr Road was perhaps the closest I've ever felt to a living roller coaster, with the 200 foot drop on the one side, rock wall on the other, the road 7 feet wide in spots and supposedly two way. We met a garbage truck and had to back up a winding hill to get out of his way. Reaching Torr Head in the rain after this was a relief, and very peaceful. Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, we could not see Scotland.

distance from torr to ballycastle

Hi etalsj,
From Torr Head, via Torr Road and Cushendall Rd, Google maps reckons it is 8.7 miles and takes 24 mins. If you are talking about the whole route on Torr Rd from Cushendun (the start of Torr Rd heading north) to Ballycastle, it is 14.5 miles and takes around 40 mins - but that doesn't allow for photo stops, or a detour to Murlough Bay (recommended). Note that Torr Rd is fairly narrow but if you can deal with that, we found the route to be one of the most beautiful that we drove in the whole of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
