A beautiful church just off the Falls Road, actually the Cathedral for the diocese of course. Wonderfully expansive with plenty of Pugin-esque touches, not least the blaze of colour that adorns virtually every surface. The Blessed Sacrament chapel is a glorious gem too, the tabernacle essentially doubling as a Monstrance with the Host perpetually on view. Others have said the area was rough - I didn't feel that at all. An oasis of calm in a wonderful city. Will definitely return for Mass next time.

Dual spires. Huge interior that’s clearly updated and not the old heavy darkness you’ll anticipate. This is a working church as well as a busy community center. It’s worth a walk or a drive before or after going to James Connolly or wall murals.

We took a tour here, and the cathedral is so amazing. We were lucky to be inside when the bells of the Angelus rang out for prayers at twelve noon. They told us that the biggest bell above is three tons in weight! I was interested that they have two different key boards to use for the giant church organ, one set below it, and another away on a balcony, the guide was so good he even took one pipe out of it to show us, and played notes to illustrate how it all works. The place has great acoustic, he says, but when people fill the church the acoustics are not so good.

Went on a Sunday. Every single door was locked. No sign showing opening times. Wasted trip.

A 'must see' you won't necessarily find on the usual lists. St Peter's is on a par with anything ecclesiastical Europe has to offer.
It was designed in the gothic revival style by Father Jeremiah Ryan Mcaulay, an architect turned priest, and architect John O'Neill and erected between 1860 and 1866. Its imposing dual spires were added about 20 years later.
Originally a parish church with temporary cathedral status, it was up-graded to full cathedral standing in 1986 with a major restoration completed in 2005.
The overwhelmingly striking feature of this church is its light, airy ambiance which makes it feel vast. The restoration removed the dark wooden confessionals which lined the walls, also the heavy altar rail, and both those modifications contribute to the wonderful atmosphere.
The décor uses crisp, fresh colours and the portrayals of the Stations of the Cross are the most beautiful I have ever seen.
On a more practical note, the beam-work of the towering roof is absolutely magnificent and anyone who has read J E Gordon's masterpiece, 'Structures, Or Why Things Don't
Fall Down' will receive an awe-inspiring object lesson in what he's talking about for a lot of the book!

We went along to midnight mass on Christmas Eve having heard good things and we were completely blown away. The cathedral was candlelit and very atmospheric. A carol service was starting at 9 and the place was packed. The choir, The Schola Cantorum, were absolutely outstanding & I was moved to years on more than one occasion. The cathedral is beautiful & well worth a visit but if you go try to go at a time when the choir are singing. It's a real treat like sounds from heaven. We are regulars now at 11 o clock mass on a Sunday. We're not particularly religious but it is a very spiritual experience when those boys sing like angels.

St Peters is a fairly nice Churches that's certainly more stunning then your average place of worship. That said it isn't a must visit unless you are really into Churches, it is good for travelers on a budget though as it's free.

Its a nice building but is set in area beset with crime. Gangs of rugrats run around outside and assault and car crime are endemic in the surrounding streets.

Took me sometime to find it but was well worth it. The building looks great but on the inside it's breathtaking! So many details and the ceiling with the high arches really make quite a picture. Definitly recommend visiting it :)

Really great Cathedral and friendly staff but its in a truly awful area. Dont park in the side streets nearby
