Observed initially on the hop on hop off bus, and went back on foot. Fascinating wall art in the unionist area, tribute to HM the Queen and also homage to the King. I did not feel unsafe at all. People were friendly. Took a wander from here to the derilict Court House and the Jail. The street art continues on the walls in the surrounding area.

I remember seeing the news during the 1980's and hearing about the Troubles between the two rival factions in Northern Ireland. At the time it seemed like such a dangerous place to a youngster. Following the Good Friday Agreement a truce was reached and peace has been established throughout the province. A real symbol of this is the Peace Wall which is not far from Shankill Road and worth checking out if you are also interested in visiting Shankill Road. Shankill Road is in the protestant area of the city and is a long straight road. On various sides of the road there are murals on the sides of buildings and many remember people who died during the Troubles. It's worth taking a walk along here and I would suggest also visiting Falls Road on the other side of the Peace Wall to get another side of how people felt. Long May Peace Reign!

The tour bus took us through The Falls, Peace Wall & Shankhill Road. The murals are worth seeing. They mentioned later tours were detoured because of a parade, so we decided to get off and attend - it didn't disappoint. We certainly didn't feel unwelcome or unsafe, was a great atmosphere, surrounded by friendly, down to earth people.
