A must see if you're in the area.
Seen this so many times on TV and had to visit as we were close by. You can take a canal barge trip over it for £10 each without having to book. Lovely walks underneath along the river. Parked in the Chapel tearooms for £2 which was across the road from one of the entrances. Walkway a bit narrow and nerve racking hence I only managed to walk half way across but the views were spectacular, you could even see another viaduct in the distance (Cefn viaduct I was told).

    Peaceful
Enjoyable experience of walking on top of one of the tallest aqueducts whilst barges sailed past. There’s a couple of places to park-we followed the directions to the heritage site car park which was £3 and a bit of a further distance to walk. Plenty of places to stop and have a picnic along the way. Toilets on the disabled car park. Beautiful sights and very peaceful. A must to do if in the area.

    Amazing structure
Overall, well worth a visit whether it’s your first visit or, like us, you’ve been a few times before. There is ample car parking for a flat fee of £3 for the day and then it’s a short walk to the aqueduct. There’s also a nearer car park for Blue Badge holders (both car parks are signposted from the main road) and it’s here you’ll find the toilets. The toilets weren’t great but were still usable. As you approach the aqueduct, there’s a little Canal & River Trust shop and museum and there’s plenty of information boards dotted around. It’s fascinating to just sit and watch the boats manoeuvring. Whilst the rest of the family set off to walk across the aqueduct and back (it’s not for the faint-hearted!), I set off to walk down to the river that flows underneath the aqueduct. There are several paths signposted with viewpoints of this amazing structure.

    Well worth a visit
Fantastic trip - wonderful views. Great to see the boats making their way along, plenty of walks nearby and great views of the aqueduct and surround. Nice little gift shop with ice cream and drinks with small museum. £3 to use massive car park 5 mins walk away. Don’t need long to see it unless you want to do a fuller walk but we’ll worth popping in if you’re in the area.

Wow!! It’s high but the views are amazing 🤩
Wow 😯 since studying and teaching tourism I wanted to visit this world heritage site and it was amazing. A little high but great views all round. The path is tight especially if someone’s coming by the other way, but the visitor centre was very informative. A great visit.

Worth a stop and a walk over
We stopped here on our way to our holiday in Snowdonia. It's quite an experience walking over, you need to be good with heights. It's worth carrying on a bit as there are boats selling food, drinks and other bits and pieces. We'd also recommend walking down to the bottom to see the river and get a feeling of the scale of the aqueduct.

    Amazing view
We visited this place on a Sunday morning and we had a lovely time there. If you are looking for fancy restaurants or pubs this is not the place for you, rather it’s more about nature exploring. The view from aqueduct was magnificent, could spend hours just gazing into the combination of river Dee and surrounding trees.

    Great place to explore
We visited on the way back from Wales and it was an unexpected surprise. There are a few car parks but we continued past the bridge and parked in one near a tea shop, that car park was cheap as well. They have viewing areas for those that don’t want to walk over the bridge. Walking over the bridge is a two way narrow path so you need to be careful with little ones and not everyone is mindful of children. Passing wider people can be challenge as well! You can watch the canal boats go up and down the bridge and they have ones you can hire or go on a boat trip. If you travel down below the bridge you’ll find some wonderful places to walk and there is an old camera sand at the main view point. Whilst walking we were looking in the river and spotted a lobster. Recommend for a family of children 9-14.

Truly a stream in the sky
This is an excellent way of getting boats from one side of the valley to the other. It could do with better car parking. There is a lot of art work around it too. It is definitely worth seeing.

    Pontcysyllte Aqueduct 2023
During a recent holiday in Mid Wales, this was one of the places that we wanted to visit. From where we were stopping to the Aqueduct was an hour and a half drive. Well worth it. If you park in the first carpark listed on the website you are a ten minute easy walk away from the aqueduct. The views are amazing, a nice visitors centre with a shop and vending machines. Plenty of seating if you want to take a picnic.

Visited this weekend on a recent family holiday, my little boy loved the boat trip, the staff was very friendly, helpful and informative. There was stunning views and was so relaxing, we walked over the aqueduct too, it’s so high up but amazing, we visited the tourist information area, again we found the staff to be friendly and informative, my little boy enjoyed building the aqueduct too! Would recommend a visit here

This is a great place to visit if only for a couple of hours as we did.
The aqueduct is fabulous with great views up & down the valley.
Its a bit narrow on the footpath so can be scary for vertigo sufferers.
Nice set up around the canal basin.

It was really fun canoeing along the river. Going across the aqueduct was a 1 in a lifetime treat it was amazing at the end of aqueduct there is a shop that sells duck food so on our way back we had loads of fun feeding the ducks🦆. Wish I had the time to do this again.

Very high up, wife couldn't handle the crossing. Very narrow, water one side and railings with drop the other. If you're brave enough great views.

This aqueduct is spectacular and no wonder it is a world heritage site.

You can walk across it, but you need a very good head for heights and good balance as the footpath is very narrow (only wide enough for one person), a small barrier to the one side with a sheer drop and the canal right there on the other. Make sure no one is coming the other way. The view is worth it though.

One of the best views is from the underneath and side where you can marvel at the engineering and scale of it.

You may only want to spend an hour here though, unless you have planned a walk around the area.

The site itself is free, but signposted parking nearby isn't and is a bit of a distance away. You may be able to park free on local roads depending upon time and date if visit.

A lovely calm boat trip across this stunning feat of engineering. The commentary by Ruben (apologies if mis-spelt) was perfect. She pitched it exactly with humour and information but didn't bombard with facts. The beautiful views as you cross are wonderful and it was a very relaxing time, although husband insisted we then walk across and back!

We visited this impressive Aqueduct many years ago so it was now time for another visit. We decided to book a canal boat trip to cross the Aqueduct as it meant no walking for my elderly mother. The guide was excellent and we literally glided across, admiring the views and the people around us; walkers, other boats and canoe's. The £10 fee was good value. This is the longest aqueduct in Great Britain as well as the highest canal aqueduct in the world.
