About
As we approach the end of the season, Plas Newydd House will go into its annual Winter hibernation and will be closing on October 31st 2021. The House will welcome visitors back in Spring 2022. The grounds and gardens will remain FREE and open to explore daily until sunset. The Tearooms will be open from Wednesday to Saturday, 10:30AM - 4PM. Home of the ‘Ladies of Llangollen’ Miss Sarah Ponsonby and Lady Eleanor Butler captured the imagination of Regency society when they ran away and set up home together in Wales. Visit their extraordinary gothicised home and hear of the stream of famous visitors they received. Learn how they won the hearts of local people and turned a simple cottage into a fantasy of oak carvings and stained glass. Stroll through the gardens they developed and try homemade cakes in the tea rooms.

Interesting house with a fascinating story.
Aug. 2021
There are two Plas Newydd's in Wales. This is the smaller of the two, however the house is a monument to a fascinating story, a story about two women who chose to be different.

We visited in August 2021. There is plenty of parking and there's enough house and gardens to occupy the casual visitor for at least an hour or so.

While the house isn't huge, (large sections of the house were destroyed years ago) what there is left is fascinating. I would urge any visitors to listen to the tour as the tale of Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby is where the real magic is at. If you miss the talk you won't get the explanation for the almost bizarre architecture and interior decor. You'll also miss out on the stories of the famous people who visited the ladies over the years. Their life would actually make a very good historical fiction novel - or at least parts of it.

After you've explored the house, you can wander through the gardens. Overall Plas Newydd is great for a family morning or afternoon out, but be warned there's not really enough here to occupy you for the day.

Fantastic day out

Fantastic visit today. Beautiful house with lots to see and a very reasonable price for entry. Large, peaceful gardens with a stream, bridges, summer houses. Optional history talk before entering the house is well worth it. The gentleman who gave us ours was great, very informative but nicely concise. Had lunch in the tea rooms afterwards. Food was delicious and again, very reasonably priced. The gentleman who served us was lovely and very efficient. Only issue we had was the female member of staff with long blonde hair and glasses. She gave off a very angry, negative vibe. No manners, no smiles, banging things around, it was quite uncomfortable and she didn't seem very friendly towards the gentleman who worked there either. But no complaints at all about the place itself or the other members of staff. Definitely worth a visit and we will definitely visit again

Well worth it. 5⭐ Stunning House & Gardens - Lovely Cafe & Good food.
Oct. 2021 • Friends
The Guide who gave us a pre-house-tour-spiel was superb. He was informative in a way that was very effective - concise, animated, confident and every sentence was packed with facts. By the time we walked in through the doors our eyes were open to much more of the story of Plas Newydd than before. Such a good idea.
Every room was full of interesting knicks- knacks giving an insight to the people who had called Plas Newydd home. If you like wooden carvings, stained glass windows, musical instruments and unusual items, then this house is for you.
We were lucky enough to go on a clear autumn day, so had a potter in the gardens. Down in the Dell we enjoyed the peace of a tickling stream, and wandered back and to over the bridges. With all the autumnal colours, it was a cracking place to get away from 2021 for a bit. It was timeless. Every corner presented characterful hideaways and more.
We popped into the cafe, where to our surprise our guide was now running around serving people. Great multi- tasker and his service was Bob on. Food was delicious. Have to say we did notice a very grumpy female member of staff who seemed to sit down a lot and didn't give off nice vibes to the other staff or customers. Thumping cutlery on the table and not good at saying thank you. Hmm...We didn't let her mood spoil our time though.

Well worth the visit.

Bliss!

Fabulous! House was fascinating and two separate tour guides were so informative and enthusiastically told me about the history and lives of the two Irish women. The inside of the house was extraordinary. I also very much enjoyed the wander along the brook. The cafe is highly recommended. Fresh food, scrumptious cake, and happy pleasant staff.

A little Gem in Llangollen

We visited Plas Newydd after seeing it on the television several times over the last few months. We had a really enjoyable visit the house and gardens are beautiful. There is also a lovely Riverside walk to do and what looks like a great cafe. The staff in both the cafe ( where we bought our tickets) and the man taking the tickets were so lovely and helpful. We stayed for the talk that the man gave us and found it to be very good and he was super informative and enthused about the property.
We didn't eat in the cafe but the food going out looked really nice and there is an inside and outside courtyard.
Parking is minimal and you need to book through eventbrite before going.

Worth a visit

My wife said I had been before but I could not remember. We were lucky as the weather was very nice. It cost us £5.00 each to go into the house, you get the tickets from the tea rooms. We enjoyed having a look and the grounds were nice to walk around.
The place is owned by the Council Not the National Trust. Photography was allowed.

My sons and I really enjoyed our visit here. The house was charming and eccentric, and we loved enjoying a drink from the cafe and then wandering around the grounds. All in all, a chilled and very pleasant way to spend an afternoon!

Something for everyone

I would say this is one of the nicest/most fun national trust places we have ever been. Our young daughters loved it as they had frisbee golf, a fab adventure park and a big tree house. I enjoyed looking round the house and gardens and also enjoyed the historical and art exhibitions. You can come here on a sunny or rainy day and enjoy it no matter what. I recommend it highly.
