Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stunning roads and views.
Will be returning in the warmer months to enhance our trip.
Highly recommend, we took a picnic but found an excellent cafe to visit next time.
Wales just keeps on giving, it's so beautiful.

Amazing views and scenery, and a lovely cafe and gift shop at top, Great place for a picnic or family day out. Unless your not good with heights! Drove from one end to the other, stopping occasionally to take pics and mooch around the shop, brought a lovely hat for myself.

What a spectacular mass of purple and yellow heather covering miles of hills, where you're right on top of the world! With sheep dotted around in amongst the heather, you can climb the hills to the highest point to gain even better views.

Wonderful drive, Fantastic views. Unfortunately we went on a very busy day, with fantastic weather which meant half the world was there. Roads clogged with walkers, cyclists, motorbikes and cars. I will make sure that I pick a quieter part of the week, month, year next time.

A beautiful, quiet place, very atmospheric. Well worth a visit. Easy to walk to from carparks, some people were picnicking on the field.

This listing is Not for the Horseshoe falls , the half circular man made weir at the head of the Llangollen canal built to divert water from the River Dee into the canal. But for the Horseshoe Pass which on the other hand is the A542 mountain road from Llangollen to Llandegla which probably gets its name from the horseshoe shape it forms round the sides of the valley as it rises to 1367 feet (417 metres), and nothing related to the falls.
The Pass is well known for the wonderful views of the North Wales countryside it provides as you snake upwards to its highest point. It’s easy to drive being an A road and there are several stopping off places where you can park and take in the views, including the famous Ponderosa cafe at its highest point (see separate Trip Advisor listing for this ).
Both the cafe and the pass itself are extremely popular with cyclists and motorcyclists and if you are a car driver and want a relaxing slow drive I would recommend best done early in the week, and especially avoid Sunday. Unless of course you want to join in with the multitude of bikers who ride it on Sunday and all meet up at the Ponderosa cafe. If you are into bikes it’s a good way to see several different models.
There are many walks and routes in the immediate area of the Cafe that are popular treks for hikers. However the cafe do have a 2 hour maximum parking restriction to put people off parking there all day to walk the hills.
It’s elevation does also mean that it can be closed by snow in the winter months.
And if you are a cyclist and have done or intend to do the Horseshoe Pass, you have my total respect.

Is it a scary drive I'm a bit worried are there any horrid bends in the road and how long are you on the road for I'm travelling up towards north Wales

No need to feel nervous, the road is wide and well marked: no serious bends. We are two seniors from Germany, with a German car and LHD. My wife drove and she asked me to tell you it is a doddle, just expect the occasional sheep in the road. You will enjoy fantastic views and other drivers are not in a hurry. Relax and have a good time.
