Windsor Castle

Take time to wander about at your own pace. The Doll's House is fascinating but as the room is rather dark (to preserve the exhibit) it can be difficult to really appreciate all the detail. Don’t miss St George's Chapel. Very moving.

Easier than Buckingham with less crowds
Sep. 2019 • Couples
You can see it on the streets, but if you're going to Windsor anyway, go in. A better option than getting to Buckingham 2 hours early, and fighting the crowds. Great tradition, pomp up the wazoo and great music. The royal band played the theme from star wars and get lucky. How odd but so cool. Definitely easier

Close up view of the changing of the the guard
Aug. 2019
Our first time watching a Changing of the Guard ceremony and I'm glad it was at Windsor Castle, We were up close as the crowd size is much smaller than Buckingham Palace and there is only a short 2'0 tall fence that you stay behind, so the view is not obscured

Magnific spectacle
Aug. 2018 • Couples
Almost every day, at 11.00 a.m. at Windsor Castle is the Change of the Guard, provided by the 1-st Battalion Welsh Guards, with the musical support of the Corps of Drums of the same battalion.
A mention, that you can't leave the castle, until the changing is finished.

Ascot Week Changing
Jun. 2019 • Couples
We went during the Ascot Week this year and they held a special version in the upper area of the grounds rather than its normal space. We were there about 20 minutes early and got a nice space along the fence. They also let people down into the moat area. Very good views and it was nice to see the full start to finish changing of the guard. The music was terrific during it.

Always good to see
Jun. 2019 • Couples
The Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle is a regular event. Check the web site for times and dates (and which regiment is marching). Always good to see, inside the castle or outside as they march from the barracks.

Better than at Buckingham Palace
May 2019 • Couples
I saw both Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle's Changing of the Guards and I thought Windsor Castle's was better. Less crowded, more intimate. The day we were there the Royal Guard of Scotland in full kilt uniforms were being relieved by the Queen's Guard, in their red with black bear fur hats. I couldn't ask for a more picturesque combination of troops. The crowd was thinner by at least 2/3 of what you see at Buckingham Palace, and afterward we were able to stand near the guard on duty for a photo. We were fortunate to be there the day after baby Sussex was born and the palace did a great job of keeping the press away from the castle.

Great to see and hear the music of the marchers
Mar. 2019 • Couples
You don't know which regiment you will see marching but it is great to see them marching up the road and hearing the accompanying band.
