Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of the most well-loved family attractions in Leeds and only three miles from the city centre. At Tropical World you can take a trek through the rainforest; stopping off briefly in the outback of Australia before a quick excursion through the desert, and all in the same morning! It is home to some old friends that include rare birds, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, spiders, snakes and the meerkats - the cutest family in Leeds. It re-opened in March 2015. This follows some stunning renovations that include the aquarium area transformed into a new Amazon themed zone where you can see new residents including piranhas and salamanders.

After a spending a wet cold day walking the previous day, Tropical World seemed like a good thing to do! We arrived just after it opened, with virtually no queue (the queue was out the door and down the path when we left early afternoon)....More

I took my kids here and was very underwhelmed by the whole experience. I don't think the place has had anything done to it for years. The only new and amazing thing that had been done is "Mary's Tree" a beautifully carved tree, carved all...More

Recent alterations have improved this venue. There are butterflies, birds, tortoises, turtles, fish, bats, a colony of meerkats, and other small mammals. Also tropical plants, and insects. All seem well looked after. The cafe is now large, clean and not too expensive, on street parking...More

It's hot inside. Small but nice and enjoyable. Good with family and children. Some strange animals. Loved the gardens next to it. We had lots of fun and took memories from the gift shop.

All of the tropical house is inside and the enclosures are very warm so even if its horrible outside I wouldn't wear to many layers.

Sorry for the delay in answering. Many of the flying birds, butterflies etc are free to fly around. Some of the bigger species are in cages/tanks.
