Step back in time and wander through the enchanting streets, shops and houses and experience life as a Victorian. As a fun, family-friendly and interactive museum, Abbey House Museum is a great day out for all the family. Come to one of our many family sessions as advertised on our website or pop in with friends for a trip down memory lane.On the ground floor visit Stephen Harding Gate, the 19th century equivalent of a modern high street, for some old fashioned retail therapy. In the back streets, see the home of the window washer woman or pop into the Sunday-School. On the first floor, see our Childhood and Community Galleries along with the changing programme of exhibitions. Abbey House Museum is situated directly across the road from the historical site of Kirkstall Abbey, set in wonderful parkland along the banks of the River Aire.

We visited in June this year and found the free car park and easy walk to the attraction very satisfying. The museum offers discounts fro Leeds card holders and we found the old streets within the building like an aladdins cave of nostalgia. Old chemist shops and pubs and undertakers etc. take you back to times long forgotten. Children also... More

The museum is free entry if you are disabled and is located across the road from the abbey. Its well worth seeing about the house and the history of the abbey.

Took my little boy to see the museum that was sadly spoiled by tacky Halloween decorations. Which wouldn't be too bad, except the museum is NOT free to get in.

This museum is excellent, it's a very interactive museum experience which I can imagine is fantastic for kids (we didn't have kids with us but we still very much enjoyed it). We combined it with a visit to Kirkstall Abbey which is right over the road. It's not expensive, I think it was around £5 per person. The museum has... More

I absolutely love this place, the Old streets within the Museum gives you a really good insight to how people used to live. The penny slot machines from years gone by are fantastic . I would recommend anybody to visit and then cross the road over to the remains of Kirkstall Abbey a really way to spend your day.

We spent a rewarding couple of hours here. The old city streets and shops were very interesting. The lady at the entrance was very informative. All in all a great experience coupled with a visit to the abbey over the road.

The museum is more extensive than you might think from the external appearance. A great Victorian street, which includes atmospheric one-up, one down dwellings, at least one of which has been transported brick-by-brick from another part of Leeds. You can get much more up close to things here than the similar re-creation at York Castle Museum. When we visited, they... More

Took my reluctant grandchildren to the museum, and they had a whale of a time - dressing up as Victorian urchins, playing on the slot machines (old pennies provided) and running round the recreated Victorian street. Brilliant.

I love this little museum - such fun walking around the mock up street life. Don't leave without trying out the cafe too, excellent for lunch and amazing cake.
