Well preserved ruins, you can self explore and they have a spot the gnomes for the kids. Little gnomes hidden amongst the ruins. Herb gardens and interesting fact signs around the site. A souvenir shop is also on the site. There is a museum across the road that is also worth visiting. There is a charge for the museum but... More

Very close to the centre of Leeds, just off Kirkstall Road is this ancient Catholic Abbey, one of those torn apart on the orders of Henry 8th. Still a relic worth visiting with a cafe and walks in parkland by the side of the River Aire. There is another park across the main road, with beautiful gardens and the Abbey... More

Really enjoy going to Kirkstall Abbey as it is great to have an easy walk with clearly defined paths or go off exploring with the children. At the same time, there is the historical element which always fascinates. Rain, Sun, Snow, been there in all conditions and it does not lose its magic

First positive - its free. Secondly - its open space, so you can have a picnic or kick a football about or just take a walk and adnire this lovely old ruin. Occassionally they hold outdoor events here - for example Shakespeare plays which are very atmospheric.

Kirkstall Abbey is a great place to visit if you are interested in old cities and ancient temple like the Greek temples. While you walk in the middle of the Abbey, you might feel that you were back to the old days being a monk. It is also great that it is free of charge to visit this temple.
