We went for a walk here and were pleasantly surprised. A good length, easy walk which took about 2.5 hours in total. You can find a walk map on the internet to follow. Well worth doing though it may be very hot on a sunny day and a bit exposed in a wet and windy one!

We chose Thorney Island for an afternoon walk as the reviews on TripAdvisor had been very good. Really enjoyed the walk, it was a clear, sunny and mild December day. Please don't underestimate the length of this walk, whilst lovely, it felt like we had been walking for hours and when I checked my phone we had only moved a... More

Most weekends I always try to find a lengthy walk to take my two dogs and family. Thorney Island is great as it offers beach, field and woodland paths. To complete the walk it took us around 3 1/2 hrs at a brisk pace, all the paths are easy to follow so there's no chance of getting lost. Buzzing through... More

We parked in the car park behind Tesco in Emsworth although you may be able to park offroad somewhere nearby - the car park is £2.50 for 5 hours. Beautiful day so we did the walk in shorts and T-shirt in October! We did the walk clockwise and in total it took about 3.5 hours with a couple of stops.... More

We found somewhere to park for free and then walked across the road to start our walk around Thorney Island, it was a cloudy day with bursts of sunshine, glad I wore my long trousers, normally live and die in my 3/4 trousers, the walk is mostly coastal, quite a way into the walk and we used the buzzer to... Trains to Emsworth are from London Victoria on the line to Southampton Central. When you arrive at Emsworth, walk down North Street, then an underpass to take you to the town Square. Continue straight on and turn left down Queen Street. After the Slipper Mill Ponds, turn right down Slipper Road, and into the yacht marina. Walk round to the... More

Heard about this walk and after advice parked in the Emsworth Marina for free. Walk to the seafront and then you are off. Stunning views and some areas are full of nettles and bramblea so gets tough on the legs if you dont have trousers on. We dis the entire walk but did get a bit lost at the end... More

Lovely drive right down to the end of the Island road until you get to the restricted Barracks area. We had a good wander around the boat areas including Emsworth Marina and the more restricted Thorney Marina. There is good parking and a nice restaurant at Emsworth Marina.

Really enjoyed the circular walk around Thorney Island with friends. We were very lucky with the weather for a Good Friday in March, blessed with a cloudless blue sky and clear views across the sparkling water of Chichester Harbour. The walk starts at the superb Lord Raglan Pub in Emsworth (Perfect for dinner and drinks at the end). Passing first... More

I had visited Thorney Island only once before my recent walking visits and that was when I was at school in the 60s, when our team played the big rough servicemen, beating them easily with our superior shooting skills! We were rewarded with a memorable supper, including lots of beans! However, I have recently visited for a walk around the... More
