St. Mary's Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in England, and has been one of Coventry's premier historic venues for more than 600 years. First built in the 1340s for the merchant guild of St. Mary, with its magnificent medieval interiors, and fine artworks the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past. Once a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, and even a playhouse where Shakespeare is thought to have performed, the Guildhall provides a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city. St. Mary's Guildhall also offers a memorable venue for weddings, meetings, conferences and private functions, whilst in the vaulted undercroft beneath the Great Hall is the atmospheric Godiva's cafe, offering tasty, good value snacks and refreshments.

Excellent informative staff, I learned much. Well preserved, very interesting place. There's a cafe downstairs which was closed when I was there. Guildhall closes at 4.00. Right across ruins of Old Cathedral. A real treat for lovers of architecture and history.

St Mary's Guildhall is situated opposite the old Cathedral on Bayley Lane, a small but beautifully preserved street with "original" cobblestones. My Grandmother was a volunteer here in the Second World War handing out ration books in the main hall. I also happened to get...More

This is such a beautiful venue. I here been here for various events and on each occasion continue to be delighted with the amazing ambience. The tapestry is a work of art and the ceiling is spectacular. A gem in the shadows of the cathedral

Surviving the devastation wrought on the Cathedral next door, St Mary's Guildhall is a wonderful example of a Middle Age hall. Dating from, I think, the 15th century, it has been wonderfully preserved and is a credit to the city.

On a fine day this should be included on your tour of Coventry. It is within a whisker of a walk from the cathedral and worth a look

Had a very informative guided tour round this lovely old building, I don't think you need to book to have a look around it. It is free and is close to the old and new cathedrals in Coventry. The Ante Room has a very interesting...More

Me and my Dad visited this attraction, as I'd never been inside, not very well advertised and down a quiet street in the City. Admission is free, and you can wander around at your leisure. Very historic and well upkept

'Original' is in quotes simply because it has been conserved - and superbly well too from the basement undercroft to the attic rooms, all of which are open for you to see. One notable point is the tapestry beneath the main window - it is...More
