Description:

If you're looking for a fantastic FREE day out for all the family, you...

If you're looking for a fantastic FREE day out for all the family, you can't beat Coventry Transport Museum. In the heart of Coventry city centre, this huge Museum is home to the world's largest collection of British road transport, and a visit whisks you away into a world of stories of real people, real passions and real hope. You'll discover the stories behind the people who made Coventry the centre of the world's motor and cycle industries, and get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that defined some of history's most important moments. The Museum is laid out as a journey through time - you'll wander 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, then explore the first car factories and gasp as you witness their wartime destruction in the Blitz Experience. The journey continues through the Boomtown, Spirit of Speed and Ghost Town galleries to bring you right up to the present day.A visit to the Museum brings you face to face with Royal cars, military vehicles, and cars that played vital parts in their drivers' life stories - none more so than the current Land Speed Record holding vehicle, ThrustSSC, which lives at the Museum. Not only can you marvel at this spectacular piece of British engineering, you can experience for yourself what it's like to travel through the sound barrier at over 760mph in the ThrustSSC Simulator.

***Please Note*** Coventry Transport Museum is undergoing a major redevelopment programme during 2014 and the early part of 2015. The Museum remains open throughout this work but you are advised to check the Museum's website to see how your visit may be affected.***

Me and my little boy ( nearly 3) walked around today, very enjoyable. He enjoyed majority, although I did rush him through the blitz experience while it was off. He enjoyed the variety of cars, and also the fire engines , tractor and buses. He wanted to take the model car exhibition home :). Well worth a trip for any... More

I am ashamed to say that I've lived near Coventry for many, many years & visited this excellent museum for the first time last week. Well it won't be the first & last time! There is an astonishing amount to see & the couple of hours we had gave us time to whizz round, get a sense of the scale,... More

Coventry is the home of the motor car from Alvis to Sunbeam including Denis fire engines and SS Jaguar, land speed record holders Thrust and Thrust SSC, and they are all on display here. The museum is well set out and staffed by knowledgeable and friendly people. There are lifts and/or ramps giving access to different levels allowing wheelchair viewing... More

Initially went in for a mid-morning snack. They cater for gluten allergies. freshly made coffee and cakes. Went into museum, free entry just bought booklet.Exhibits are well laid out but sometimes the details were either missing or confusing. It was pleasant being able to see mostly British owned manufacturers on display..Talking to other visitors we were all taken back to... More

Really nice way to spend some time. It's a great layout and they have put a lot of time into setting it up. Took my family here, it's a great way to spend a raining day as well.

Free entry to the museum was the initial attraction for us, as a family it's nice to find a fun activity we can all enjoy that won't cost the earth! We visited during the holidays and found there were extra activities for the children so even more fun was enjoyed! It had been years since I had been to the... More

The museum is laid out in such a way that as you follow the timeline of vehicle manufacture and design evolution, you also follow the industrial and social history of Coventry. Both aspects are fascinating - there is enough space to be able to see the cars properly, the written information is clearly presented and the interactive bits are well... More
