Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loving all things Pugin, we visited Birmingham with the sole purpose of visiting St Chad's. The cathedral was built by George Myers (‘Pugin’s Builder’) and the original internal decorations and fittings were made by craftsmen who reintroduced medieval techniques of production. One of the finest neo-gothic church buildings in England, opened in 1841. Much of the work is by Hardman & Co. It contains some splendid 19th century stained glass made by Hardmans, a 16th century Flemish pulpit, and a late medieval statue of the Virgin Mary, as well as one of the largest new manual organs in the UK, built by Walkers & Co in 1993.
Wonderful Minton floor tiles, gorgeous ceiling, fabulous wall decorations. As soon as you step inside you'll be in awe. Because many fittings were removed in the 1960s and some redecoration was undertaken, its appearance today is a said to be a shadow of how it was originally conceived by Pugin, but its enduring beauty is testament to the skill of its original designers. St Chad's is undoubtedly a magnificent architectural gem. It is a peaceful haven, and though surrounded by busy roads, it retains a quiet vigil within at all times. To truly experience the Cathedral at its best, attend one of its many services and experience the true purpose of this beautiful building.

This Roman Catholic Cathedral is a little away from most of the tourist traffic, and set by a busy road. It looks like a large, old parish church of Gothic style. Inside, the nave is large and attractive, and there are several small chapels. There is colourful stained glass and other interesting features. I was a little disappointed not to have access to the altar area (for photographing), but I understand the security problems involved here.

It's a good place to pray or to shut out if you like going to attend mass at rush hours during busy days

As one of the first catholic churches built in Britain since the Reformation, St Chads is well worth a visit. However, it is not the easiest place to get to, with a reasonable walk from the city centre.
The effort is well rewarded. The exterior is somewhat severe, but has a grandeur that belies the fact that it is built of brick. The architect, Pugin, was influenced by German churches, but I also feel that the design, if not materials, is reminiscent of early north Italian styles.
The inside is a delight, and it comes as a surprise when stepping in to discover just how light and airy it feels.
This is not a church upon which to build a day trip, but if you are visiting Birmingham it is well worth making the effort to go and see this, somewhat, hidden jewel.

Really nice to see this cathedral in real life as I had to learn about it on a Uni course. I was very interested to see the twin towers and the red brick gothic style of this cathedral, I had seen one like it in Lubeck, Germany.
The inside is truly beautiful. Sit down and look up at the painted details on the ceiling and going up the verticals. The statue of virgin Mary is amazing when you think that it has survived since about the 15th Century and travelled here from the Netherlands.
In case you are not aware, the gothic style of architecture encourages you to look upwards to where we think of God as being.
Only bad point was that there was no photography allowed inside.
