This museum is much bigger than anyone might think! It is not only dedicated to the history of Birmingham and the Black country but also there are exhibits like Ancient Egypt and the Romans. It is definitely a must-see when in Birmingham. As stated in the title, you will require a good couple of hours to see it in its... More

A great visit today - fab idea getting my Pokémon mad son round the museum and lots of interesting exhibits that can be explored by kids hands which is great. Definitely not a dusty musty old museum here! Saw the Staffordshire hoard today too which was an unexpected bonus. All for free too, tho we donated money as we left.... More

Visited after wanting to for a long time as never get round to it when visiting daughter at university. Really interesting and interactive displays which we enjoyed. Saw a lot in a few hours but a lot more to see so will definitely be back. And it's all free like most of our great museums!

The quality of the displays, the paintings, and the artefacts is world class, and worth an hour or two of anyone's time. I am a bit of a ceramics (pottery) fan and an amazing collection is displayed between the shop and the beautiful Edwardian Tearooms. The Pre-Raphaelite pictures are among the best (if not the best) in the world, and... More

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is not all that big, but it manages to pack in a lot of interesting things. The most recent important highlight, is The Staffordshire hoard. Although the individual pieces are small, the detail and design are exquisite. The variety of both the exhibits and the art means it is never boring. If you are there... More

Had a great time at the museum and gallery. Went for the Pre-Raphaelite works and the only downside was the lighting in certain rooms (the room containing Rossetti's Beata Beatrix!). For a free day out it was very good.

Well worth an hour or two wandering around absorbing the art and history of Birmingham. Everything is displayed to a high standard, the layout flows well and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. And when you need to rest your feet the café is well worth a visit.

We came for the Staffordshire Hoard as my sister's family had heard about it and wanted to see it at BMAG. Everybody was entertained. The exhibition looks at conservation issues and examines the hoard with reference to history, culture and the mysteries that have not yet been resolved as to why it was buried and what all the decorative gold...
