    This is a Must !
If you have limited time in Stratford Upon Avon, and only have time for one tourist attraction, then pick this one ! Initially hesitant to spend £12.50 per adult to pop in a school room but was I wrong !!! This is a well thought out and co-ordinated tour and event, with the opportunity to see rare medieval paintings! So rare they are hidden behind a screen The tour is broken into 5 parts Part 1 : information show on the guild hall building Part 2: viewing of rare wall paintings Part 3 : staged classroom experience as young Elizabethan boys Part 4 : Learning to write with a quill Part 5 : The masters / prefects room There has clearly been a lot of thought, passion and pride with the custodians showing their guild hall history and school room experience ( it is still very much a working school) . This tour is exceptional. Well done we loved it !

Shakespeares school is worth the visit
Best part of our day in Stratford upon Avon. We saw the birthplace which was very interesting and the bottom of the guildhall was interesting although a bit rigid when it came to the tour guide. The upstairs school section was the absolute highlight! Learned more about Shakespeares England than in the whole day. Highly recommend. Hang in there through the ground floor. Upstairs is worth it !

    Worth a visit.
Kind of a must see. The headmaster is the main event. He was funny and very knowledgeable. The guide on the ground floor was probably an overseas student from China. Her English language skills weren't great. Which was the only negative. Too many 'ums'.

    Fun, interactive, and educational
This was the most fun we had in Stratford. The exhibits covered multiple periods of history and included hands-on activities, friendly guides, and interactive experiences (multimedia, conversations with an actor, writing with a quill, chance to dress up for kids, etc.). It truly is a hidden gem. The staff were so friendly and great with both adults and kids. We would definitely recommend it.

We had a wonderfully informative visit, learning about the building methods of the time as well as being given an entertaining lesson from a 'teacher' in the schoolroom. We were also shown a very precious recently discovered wall painting which you are allowed to glimpse for a few seconds. The other Shakespearean locations were closed on the days we were in Stratford, but this was, I suspect, a much more interesting place to visit.

We took the kids to Santa at the Schoolroom. Really good, everybody had a great time kids and adults. Those playing Father Christmas, Thursday the Elf and Charles Dickens were excellent, really engaging, made if funny but also really interesting with the history of the school. But also made it a good Christmas experience as well.

Would recommend Santa at the schoolroom hopefully on again this time next year.

I really wasn't too keen on going around an old school, having been around many an old school in my own old school years, but being a 'baby-sitter' for the day and with a keen six and eleven year old wanting to go, I was left with little choice. I can honestly say that he actors used here are so skilled, so entertaining and so very, very funny that I loved the experience. If you go with children who are more than happy to push you to the front of the class as a 'naughty pupil', then they are in for a treat. Seriously great fun from some excellent actors. The school master, especially!

Conveniently located in the heart of old Stratford (as you'd expect), it was possible just to turn up and join one of the regular guided tours. There were quite a few others in our group but it wasn't overly crowded. There isn't that much to see, but the tour provides a varied experience that includes a short film, sitting in a classroom with an actor in period costume enjoying himself as a rude teacher and learning to write (very poorly) with a quill pen. We were left to linger at the end which gave more opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of the place.

I took three children aged 9 -11 years today. We had a lovely guide who was very informative and interesting. We learned so many facts and history about the building which was fascinating. We then had a lesson for about 15 minutes with a school master who was great, slightly scary but just the job, my kids loved the immersive nature and the fact the building is 600 years old!
We then spent about 40 minutes in the other section of the school room writing with quills and sitting at ancient desks, dressing up and also completing a treasure hunt. My children were totally absorbed the whole time. All staff were fantastic, highly knowledgeable and very friendly.

we came to this attraction not knowing what to expect. We pocked our head in through the door and spoke to a really friendly chap at reception. The price was quite cheap so we decided to pop in and have a look around.

It was really quiet and as a result we ended up getting a private tour of the school rooms and the fascinating painting at the back. Our daughter is nearly 10 years old and was utterly spellbound by the whole experience.

We loved going upstairs and learning Latin and how to write with quills, Master Jenkins was really good and knew his stuff, Answering our questions in a child friendly way.

The whole building is completely atmospheric and it was wonderful imagining what life was like for the scholars back in Tudor times.

We highly recommend a visit to this gem of an attraction.

From the moment we arrived, to when we left, we were impressed by the care this place takes of its visitors. It would be so easy to be tired of constant repetition... however, not this bunch.
"We've got a big party coming after you - why not go to the schoolroom upstairs first, then come back and do this floor when they've gone through?"

SO glad we did - we arrived 'late' upstairs to a 'lesson' and an utterly brilliant 'schoolmaster' duly chastised us, waving a birch. However, no harm was done - as he talked to us all about the philosophy of education in Shakespeare's time. Worth going just for this experience. I learned a lot.

Then we had a fascinating visit to the more modern schoolroom, still equipped with desks with holes for inkwells. A private chapel, with a 'secret altar painting' which was revealed behind a protective screen. Then a short film. It was wonderful to find the young people from today's school nearby still use these rooms. Thank you all for a fabulous hour or so.

You start with a little talk about the things you'll see, and the you are taken to watch a short intro about the Guild Hall, from there you are taken to see the little hidden diamond of a wall painting.

Then you are free to roam.

As you climb the stairs you are met with a commanding voice, then your eyes lock with Sir, he tells you sit down and you do.

Sir, then takes you on a journey back into Shakespeare's day,

A 12 hour school day.. 6 days a week, no pen or paper! You had remember everything by listening.

After being greeted at the reception by Christine , Verity took over and enthusiastically introduced the place and kick started the small tour. This was followed by a very dedicated performance by Taresh as the school’s headmaster providing us more information about the school and its association with William Shakespeare.
Overall a very informative experience made interesting by committed and warm people.
