We travelled on the Shakespeare Express on 28th August. This was gift from our family for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. We had full English breakfast on the way to Stratford and Afternoon tea on the return journey. The food was very enjoyable and the staff were very friendly and efficient. I was very nice eating in style through the country... More

We had a very enjoyable trip. There are two trains in each direction, one in morning and one in afternoon. We got the afternoon train from Birmingham but because Stratford Station is a fair way from the town there wasn't time to into Stratford itself. We have been to Stratford a few times before so I wasn't bothered. We stayed... More

Booked to travel on Trains A and D on August 21st from Birmingham Moor Street to Stratford-upon-Avon. The train that day was hauled by GWR Hall Class no 4965 'Rood Ashton Hall' (lovingly restored by volunteers at Tyseley) Both legs of the journey were enjoyably relaxing and I enjoyed looking at the views, especially when going past stations (with many... Managed to get a Livingsocial deal for a family ticket for the Shakespeare Express which enabled us to do the return journey from Stratford to Snow Hill for only £16. We arrived nice and early and boarded the train 45 minutes before departure so were able to get great seats, I would advise arriving early as there is no reserved... More

We got on board the steam train at Birmingham to go to Stratford. It was an enjoyable trip with very good weather. Time to relax have cuppa and take in the views. The staff were friendly and interacted well with all there passengers.

When we arrived, we were told there were no more seats left but we had pre booked. Eventually, they gave us a seat but we had to wait a few minutes. This could happen to anyone who arrives late. Is this trip worth it? If you can be patient, bring sandwiches and get a special offer, it is worth it.

I'm never exactly sure why a proper meal on a train is so satisfying but when it's Sunday lunch on the steam hauled Shakespeare Express, it's the sure fire recipe for a super day out and it certainly didn't let us down. The three course meal plus coffee is served on the return trip from Stratford on Avon to Birmingham... More

Birmingham to Stratford upon Avon on a sunny July morning hauled by Rood Ashton Hall tender first. On board catering. Lots of staff with long faces, makes you wonder why they do it. We were told the trip back to Birmingham was better, as it was faster engine first. Steam is to be savoured, it I wanted speed I would... More

We took the train from Stratford where there is a big car park. The cost was £2.30. Our locomotive was Rood Ashton hall so restricted to 60mph as opposed The Earl of Mount Edgcombe which can go up to 75. It's an exciting trip - a true mainline steam experience at a bargain price. We chose dining and had a... More
