This fifteenth-century, charming thatched cottage was the childhood home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's sweet-heart and wife.Experienced guides explain the stories behind the Shakespeare connection and the history of some well-known English idioms such as "chairman of the board".There are nine acres of gardens and grounds to explore including a lavender maze, a woodland walk, the Shakespeare arboretum and a living willow cabin where you may listen to some of Shakespeare's sonnets.

We had a beautiful sunny day for our visit, and it was glorious. The staff were so friendly and informative. Fortunately we missed the tourist buses and had the place to ourselves, arriving at about 13.30.

I think of all the attractions that Stratford has to offer that Anne Hathaway's footage is right up there amongst the best. Informative staff, wonderfully preserved building and thoroughly enjoyable and informative visit. Thank you to everyone!

I have visited Stratford several times and never done the houses as, whilst looking amazing from the outside was never sure there would be much on the inside. But I was wrong, so worth the visit. We did the 4 town houses, bought together online for £20.50 and had a whole day of culture, art, stories and history for it... More

We spent a lot of time wandering around the grounds, there is so much to see. The cottage was just like walking back in time to an era long, long ago. There were so many interesting objects to see and the guides were extremely knowledgable and helpful, it will be great to go back when the gardens are in full... More

Best time to come is when the plants are in flower as this is a key feature. For us, in March, this small house lacked adequate internal room guides to answer questions as you travel round. Given this issue, each room cried out for some kind of storyboard with additional labelling to explain exactly what we were looking at and... More

Thank you for visiting Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Gardens. Our gardens are currently beginning to burst into spring colour and our garden displays change throughout the year so there is always something new to see. I’m sorry to hear you did not have all your answers about the cottage answered. Our guides deliver two different talks throughout the cottage, which... More
