This fifteenth-century, charming thatched cottage was the childhood home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's sweet-heart and wife.Experienced guides explain the stories behind the Shakespeare connection and the history of some well-known English idioms such as "chairman of the board".There are nine acres of gardens and grounds to explore including a lavender maze, a woodland walk, the Shakespeare arboretum and a living willow cabin where you may listen to some of Shakespeare's sonnets.

We visited the cottage as part of a Shakespeare's 5 houses package which cost around £22 per person. Good value I thought. We walked to and from Stratford centre. It took about 20 mins each way. Loved the house and how they are renovating the...More

Probably my favourite attraction on the Shakespeare trail in Stratford upon Avon. Wonderful gardens and the house itself is really good with very good guides who are very knowledgeable. Not to be missed if you are visiting Stratford upon Avon.

Usually relatively uncrowded compared with the other Shakespeare houses, Anne Hathaway's cottage is a little gem in the beautiful village of Shottery, just outside Stratford. Super-friendly and knowledgeable guides in the house, great gardens, lovely orchard and evocative sculpture trail. We will be back.

Did not manage to get here on our visit to Stratford two years ago but made it this time. So glad we did as the tour is very informative with respect to "Mrs Shakespeare" and her family's life before and after she met the bard....More

Very well kept place. The garden is beautiful. The surrounding is so quiet and peaceful. Located slightly away from the main center, but worth the detour.

Beautiful old cottage with a lot of history. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. It's a decent walk from town but worth the effort.

Atmospheric place where you can imagine how life was in the 16th century. Interesting to learn more about Anne from the very knowledgeable guides in some of the individual rooms.

I really enjoyed our visit here. It seemed much more authentic than Shakespeare's birth place. The gardens were beautiful. If I could only see one thing in Stratford, this would be it.

This was probably the most interesting of the houses that we visited of the Shakespeare sites. The grounds were stunning and we took our time strolling through the trees. The house itself was also quite interesting and the guides were chatty about the history of...More

You need to buy a ticket first. It's a National Trust property, so if you look it up on their website you'll find whether you can pay for just the gardens without the house, which is sometimes the case.
