A lovely stroll

A lovely afternoon stroll through an urban landscape. The pathways are well maintained and it is beautiful walking through Hanley park.

We love to walk along canals, this canal is generally clean with decent footpaths, as you walk you get the chance to see bottle kilns and get a taste of the potteries and how important the canals were in the past

We have not long returned from the Caldon and will not doubt be back later in the year. This is one of the most beautiful canals on the system and once you have left Hanley's industrial area it is lovely countryside to be enjoyed by boaters, walkers and cyclist alike (sorry and not forgetting anglers) The railway at Consall is... James brindley was born 300 years ago and he built and designed the cauldron canal after he had built the Trent and Mersey. There are various places to visit along its length. But at its start, where it splits from the Trent and Mersey is the industrial museum. It has regular steaming days and is the home of Jessie Shirley... More

Once out of Stoke the countryside is beautiful. The canal had relatively few narrow boats cruising along it which is just a well as the canal is generally narrow with lots of blind bends that need to be taken slowly. It also has three of the lowest bridges (numbers 9, 18 and 50) I have encountered and the Froghall tunnel... More

The Caldon canal or Cauldon Canal is one of the most beautiful parts of the staffordshire moorlands an it is well worth hiring a narrowboat to slowly take it all in especially where the canal meets the river Churnet - absolutely awesome.

Really good place for a walk as there's loads to see along the way - it's not overly crowded either with interesting stops and interesting when it meets the Trent/Mersey canal.

A lovely, lovely canal! Once out of Stoke, its an oasis of peace and calm! Don't tell any one! It's a dead end at Froghall warf but Leek is not far and the Black Lion pub between canal, river and steam railway line is ..well..... make up your own mind! Some great beers in the pub! Food can be very... More

Little more to say - beautiful - one of the most scenic rural canals - went with friends in their narrowboat.
