We missed the turn to the Rambler's Retreat (well I did - my wife spotted it!), so parked in the old station Car Park and walked down by the Churnet River to the start of Dimmingsdale the The RR. What a lovely walk, with the sound of the wind whistling through the trees. The walk in Dimmingsdale we'll coem back... More

Parked at the Ramblers Retreat, which sadly was closed due to a family bereavement, and did the circular walk stopping off halfway at the Alton bridge hotel for good. Excellent food but a little expensive, would still recommend though.Second half of the walk on the level as it follows the disused rail line back towards oakamoor. Brilliant walk rather steep in... Really beautiful in the autumn colours and great views of around Alton. There's some shorter walks you can do with small children but beware it can be really muddy with a dog.... The Ramblers retreat is a fab cafe with converted sheds making lovely bolt holes for a family cream tea...

An amazing and unspoiled place for pleasant walks, with seats dotted around for chatting, while looking across amazing and breathtaking views of canopy below. Only 20 mins from centre of Stoke and some great local eateries withing 5 to 10 minute drive.

Did a circular walk in the Dale, enchanting views, peaceful, to too many people. Wild raspberries. Shallow river - the dog loved it.
