Home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years this stunning medieval palace is open for all to enjoy. Surrounded by a breathtaking moat with resident Mute swans, you can cross the Drawbridge to experience a true hidden gem in the heart of the City of Wells. The Palace sits within 14 acres of RHS partner gardens, including the beautiful well pools from which the city takes its name. In the Arboretum is the newly developed "Dragon's Lair" children's playground to tire out little legs. There are daily Guided Tours, a Cafe serving delicious lunches, cakes and hot and cold drinks. Dogs are welcome on leads.

This place is a little oasis in the heart of Wells, utterly charming and a lovely way to pass a couple of hours. With lots of different areas to explore it is more than your standard historical venue. Particular highlights included the rather special Dragons...More

Thank you very much for this great review. We're really happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit and it's brilliant to know that you eventually had to drag the kids away from The Dragon's Lair. The Gardens do change hugely throughout the year, so...More

We had a lovely visit to the Bisops Palace, it was a sunny day so perfect for exploring the gardens, the chapel and palace were lovely. A wedding was planned for the afternoon which rendered the Palace closed to the public so please check before...More

Very enthusiastic staff to greet you and answer all your questions. Worth the small entrance fee to walk round and see the 2 floors in the palace and their contents.

You can wander around a little of the moat and over into the centre courtyard but if you want to explore the main areas there’s an entrance fee of £7.99 per adult with Gift Aid. Worth it though as to wander around will probably occupy...More

We were here for a wedding in January 2017. Great location with good service. The gardens and wells are very nice to visit and the buildings have a great authentic feel.

This play is never ceases to amaze me. No matter how many times you come it looks different even in so called 'off season' as January is. My other half treated me to a joint membership for two people which cost £48 for the year....More

Thanks for your lovely review Brian. We let the Moat and Well Pool levels deplete a couple of times a year, as advised by the Environment Agency, to help keep the silt levels down! It does look a little odd and some people enjoy being...More

We paid a small fee to get in the Bishops Palace and gardens, but this was well worthwhile, as you could visit and enter the Palace and included two floors. The Bishop still lives in the building, which is historic and well kept and interesting....More

Absolutely beautiful grounds. I went with my girlfriend with approximately an hour left of sunlight - it was magnificent. I would recommend going around that time!
