My husband and I, after many years of driving past without stopping, decided at long last to pay the castle a visit. We joined a tour which only took us to a few rooms because of the winter renovation. We were not disappointed. A very...More
The general visiting was closed for the winter refurbishment and renovation process. However we were able to go on a tour of the castle. Jane was very interesting and informative and we learnt so much of the history of the castle!
The fabulous position of this attraction will attract many visitors. It is a challenge for many older visitors just to reach the castle itself, as some quite steep slopes are involved, even from parking the car to arriving at the main entrance. Of course, if...More
We went on an organised tour of the house as out of season - very interesting and the tour guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The grounds are well worth walking around with lots to see. I particularly enjoyed the crypt.
Great afternoon. We went on a ' behind the scenes' tour today. Our guide was very easy to listen to and obviously very enthusiastic and well informed about the castle. We didn't need to see all the castle as we got the gist of it...More

After lunch in a nearby cafe, we took a gentle stroll around the grounds, encountering the odd skeleton enjoying the views of the gardens. The gardens had good wide paths, there were some steep ascents up stairs and also paths around the gardens
Beautiful castle, views, and gardens. Sitting on top of the quaint town of Dunster is this superb property. Lots of interesting facts to be heard from the volunteers in each room. Lovely shop and once parked an easy walk into the town.

The previous post is correct, however there is a shuttle which goes up to the castle from the car park and there are extensive areas of level ground around the castle itself with some beautiful views. There are entrance ramps and disabled facilities and the castle itself is still worth seeing even if the ground floor is only accessible.
