This is where the Inspiration for the hymn Rock of Ages came from. Just at the bottom of the Combe there is a small car park and on the opposite side is a plaque and the cleft in the rock. If the Reverend Tiplady had...More

My girlfriend and I had cause to drive both up and down the 'Gorge' today, although not as impressive as the Gorge down to Cheddar from a parallel road, the rock structures and what they represent are amazing, rock formations apparently 'facing' or 'pointing' in...More

Burrington Ham used to be really beautiful and the views on a clear day all the way to South Wales are still truly outstanding. Even in Winter, the paths and tracks made for lovely walks. But, over the last few years, with the introduction of...More

Parked at the top of the Coombe and enjoyed a great walk on Burrington Ham. Great views towards Black Down - and out over the Bristol Channel. Plenty of parking at the top of the Coombe - and an Ice Cream Van waiting at the...More

Beautiful location. Provides a lovely walk. Easy to access, parking and an ince cream van in the summer. No frills in terms of a location but then when did nature have to provide fake thrills!

Great walking country with fantastic views of the Mendip Hills. Gentle walks with good paths though muddy at this time of the year. On a good day you could see the Severn Estuary and hints of Welsh mountains in the distance. Good car parking.

It's very close to Cheddar Gorge, but smaller and without the hoo-ha! Just as beautiful in it own way and, for me, very interesting because of the cleft in the rock which inspired the old hymn 'Rock of Ages'. It's fairly easy to miss this...More

This is the place where I took my first underground caving trip back in 1974 and was the start of a life-long love of caves. There are over 20 in this area and a big one - Aveline's Hole which you can walk into on...More

Burrington combe lives in the shadow of it's bigger cousin at Cheddar but has it's own merits of being very natural and without the commercial enterprises. Some lovely walks from here and a chance to go "proper" caving at Goat Church for the more adventurous
