It is lined with shops across both sides - one of only four in the world like it. It was designed in 1769 by Robert Adam. Very interesting features and incredible views.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 31 October 2023

- CassimaSKBicester, United Kingdom346 contributionsA very special bridgePulteney Bridge is a unique bridge - very monumental and is a great example of Georgian architecture. Not only just a stunning bridge, it has shops and restaurants on both sides and once you step, you don't realise you are walking across a bridge. Must visit when in Bath.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 December 2023
- Dan TLondon, United Kingdom91 contributionsBeautiful bridgeThis is a great spectacle and a wonderful piece of architecture. Bath is the only place where a bridge like this feels truly at home. The views of it are lovely and the views from it, specifically from one of the pretty little cafes on the bridge itself are also beautiful. Apart from bridges in Italy like the Rialto and the ponte vecchio I haven’t seen anything like it. Adorned with shops and cafes that are worth a quick look in their own right.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 December 2023
- liucy752Taipei, Taiwan1,728 contributionsStunning from a distance and up closeA stunning stone bridge. It is lined with classical and elegant buildings. They are now restaurants, stores, and ancient map bookstore. The original beautiful terminating pavilions have unfortunately been remodeled. Some travel books and web pages report that it is one of only four bridges lined with shops in the world. In fact, not only that, according to my knowledge, there are at least another 6 scattered in France, Italy, Germany and Bulgaria. There are many beautiful cover bridges in Southern China, some of them have also been turned into pavilions, houses, and even temples on the bridge. When visiting, be careful of cars passing by. It is said that there is plan to convert the bridge into a pedestrian area. That would be awesome.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 April 2024

If you get a chance - head over to the Thai Weir and continue down the steps and there you can catch a boat trip so you can get extra close. Boat trip has two boats running and is around 40 mins to an hour.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 May 2024

We saw this on a bright sunny day this week and the water looked like it was dancing in the sunshine. Well maintained. If driving in Bath beware of Pulteney Bridge it may be the most expensive road per foot in the UK. In driving rain on Tuesday 18th my husband missed the signs that only Taxis and Buses may exit the town over Pulteney Bridge. Ironically the reason he was driving in the town center was to pick me up with my 16 Bath Buns in boxes from Sally Lunn's, that I was taking straight home to Hampshire as gifts from our great short break in Bath !!! Bath buns cost ÂŁ28 the 50ft of Pulteney Bridge cost ÂŁ30 - not great value and unlike the buns left a bad taste in my mouth. My thanks go to Bath & North East Somerset County for ruining my memories of what had been a lovely weekend break.

This is a major attraction in Bath and you would be unlucky to miss it. We ate at restaurants near the bridge on two nights, and were taken to it on our walking tour of the city when the guide explained the history and importance of this area. I would certainly recommend the walking tour.
Lovely views, some good restaurants and independent shops make this a must visit area.

Just how much money did you need to build your own picturesque and sizable bridge ( ensuring that you name it after yourself) so that you could reach your other estates on the eastern river bank..
Pulteney Bridge is such an iconic place in Bath, with its characteristic shops incorporated in the bridge structure, and overlooking the weir on the river Avon ,and the Colonnaded Walk to the Gardens. But it is best viewed from the river or at least the riverbanks to appreciate this quite remarkable grade 1 listed building, as it would be quite possible not to realize this was a bridge from the roaway incorporated into it, due to the shops. An unmissable part of Bath's rich heritage.

Ideal spot for taking photographs, and strolling across this tiny bridge just to say you’ve done it! Half a dozen shops on the bridge but nothing exciting. Most popular place is the (tad expensive!) cafe that has a view over the weir. We wanted to pop in for a snack but all the tables were occupied.....some by people who had clearly finished but content to stay using their iPhones/iPads!! As a tourist it’s impossible not to miss the Bridge.

Bath is lovely for a wander. Very historic
Visited a few times and always enjoyed it. Lots of places to eat and drink.
Like all cities in the U.K. the weather helps, but as a city it has so much to offer the weather really doesn’t detract from its beauty

This is a must do, if you're in Bath. The best place to view the bridge on either side of the river on the south side of the river. There's a footpath st the east end of the bridge to get to the park on that side of the river. The park on the west side of the river costs ÂŁ2 to enter, but we were passing in the evening and it was free, so we got some night time photos.

One of only 4 bridges in the world that have shops built along both sides. Inspired by the Ponte Vecchio Bridge in Florence, though somewhat shorter in length and makes good use of Bath Stone, designed by the famous Robert Adam in a Palladian style. Has two very different sides to look at - the dressed stone Pulteney Weir side and the other side (accessible via foot path down to Turtle Bar restaurant). Going down the steps onto the banks of the River Avon o see from there is worthwhile. If you have the time walking over and exploring the little shops and restaurants on it - then walk on into Great Pulteney Street and see the symmetry of the houses leading to / from it. This bridge was a massive statement of wealth by the Pulteney family who had the bridge built to connect Bath with land they owned and planned to develop (only part completed) on the other side of the River Avon.

We were visiting Bath for the day and this was in our list to visit to take photos.
The bridge is a little walk from the centre and easily found over the river.
We took some phots from a distant and then walk to the bridge to walk over it.
We discovered the building now has a cafe in it and some of the seating overlooks the windows of the bridge out on to the water. Unfortunately we had just eaten so never went in but the cakes and things we could see from the window looked very good.

I love this bridge with its shops along each side. The Antique Map ship is brilliant - all maps are certified and so interesting- I bought 2 maps but could have bought a lot more. The cafes are small and because of the view are busy. Overall a must see when in Bath

It probably helped that we visited Bath on a glorious sunny day because all the the architecture throughout the city looked particularly nice.
The bridge itself while not the most beautiful I have ever seen is nonetheless an attractive piece of architecture. Actually when you are on the bridge itself you can’t really tell - better to view it from afar while walking along the attractive river bank.

De vingerhoeden van Toll House on Pulteney Bridge in Bath
Vingerhoednieuws 19e jaargang Nummer 82
Friedy Kamp.
Felix was stomverbaasd.

We will have a car. What roads did AC prefer?
Written 26 March 2017
Hey, sorry for the delay! Someone might be able to correct me as I'm back in Nashville now but I feel as though there was only one main road into the town of Bath where Pulteney Bridge is located. The winding roads were stunning...just wished I could've had a change to pull off for a view and taken some pictures. The mist and light rain prevented us from doing so :(
Enjoy your trip!!
