The Cathedral is Sheffield's oldest building, the ancient heart of a great city, where God has been worshipped for over a thousand years. It has watched Sheffield grow and develop over the centuries, and it tells a story - of great women and men, of wars, of industry and commerce, and of the people who have lived in Sheffield.

Here people have prayed, made music, offered hospitality and cared for the poor, as they do still today. The building reflects its many uses, with the traditional worship spaces including the grand high altar and the quiet crypt chapel, but also the busy conference centre, and the Archer Project area where the homeless and vulnerable find what they need

Here every visitor will find something to interest them. You can book a special visit, or just call in and explore. You may find that a service is happening, in which case you can join in or not as you choose.

Everyone is invited - Sheffield Cathedral is a place for all people.

We are open every day of the year.

I visited the cathedral for the first time in December, when it was all decorated for Christmas, and I have to say that I was not in the least disappointed! Despite being an atheist, churches and cathedrals have always been some of my favourite buildings, and this one was calm, peaceful and beautiful.

I came to Sheffield Cathedral to join friends singing the Messiah here last week and had a wonderful experience. The Sheffield Bach Choir were hosting the event and they were accompanied by a Brass Band - The Rothwell Temperance Band. The acoustic of the Cathedral is amazing and the choir and the band together made an amazing sound. The Cathedral... More

I'm not over religious by any means, but I visited the Cathedral over Christmas, I lost my parents over 15years ago, Christmas is a time of reflection it's a time for families and for enjoying time together, I found myself wondering through the doors feeling a little lost, the beautiful stained glass windows are incredible, if you enjoy architecture, art... This cathedral is a bit of a suprise. From the outside it looks very small, however once inside you quickly realise there is a lot more to see than you expect. If you want to look around you should realise it is a very active church with lots going on throughout the week. You would do well to check their... More

Highlight the military chapel but some lovely stained glass (some almost pastel shades) in main body.

Visited for a Friday afternoon recital. Arrived early and was pleasantly surprised to find a Lantern Tower. This diffuses coloured light and is a joy to see it.

Sheffield's oldest building. Was interesting to learn the history behind the cathedral. Very impressive to look around. Spent at least an hour here. Plenty of stand alone digital displays giving information about items nearby. Guides were on hand to offer info if needed. On a downside if certain areas are cordoned off clearer barriers should be in place then curt... More

My wife and I visited this cathedral during our day in Sheffield City centre and both think it's one of the nicest cathedrals we've visited. We always make a point of looking inside the cathedral whenever we visit a city at home or abroad - so to say it's one of the nicest is high praise and highly recommended.
