Yes, there's no doubt a certain degree of poetic licences taken with some of the stories, but what do you expect when the history is centuries old. More importantly, it was fun, interesting and something a bit different. Topped off with a great view over...More

Unfortunately the castle can only be visited when booking a tour. So all we could see really was the outside as a tour was quite expensive. A bit disappointing... would rather walk through in my own time and speed.

There was some good bits, and some scary bits, and some creepy bits, and some cool bits. 10/10. Rowland was coolest guide, v.entertaining and with impressive life span considering he was born in the 1500s!!!!!!!!!!!

Great tour! Rowland Jenkes in full costume, recounted the history with energy and drew us into years long gone. Well worth the visit!

The title says it all really. The friar who gave the tour was really good. Lots of steps though, some of which are narrow and spiral.

Enjoyed the tour very much especially climbing to the top of the Anglo-Saxon/Norman tower. Our tour guide, Seymour Wisdom, was very colorful, entertaining, and did a great job showing us around !

I was greeted by an Elizabethan prisoner as my tour guide - we learn the story of the prison through his experiences at Oxford. It's a clever way to guide tours through this Castle that was used more as a prison than a royal residence....More

Having lived in Oxford on and off from the time when this was still a prison, I have long been looking forward to touring it, and was pleased when my 10-year-old son agreed to the suggestion. It did not quite live up to the expectation....More

For your kid it should not be a bad place, but there are a few places like the basement or the cell, which are small and stuffy and may feel claustrophobic and/or a bit spooky. Overall if your kid/s likes new places and... More

The guides are all dressed as the personalities of the time. I don't recall mannequins
